Dehubbing Wheel Theory

So I've been seeing a lot of people on here with awesome wheels that have dehubbed and it got me thinking...

Let use Proto wheels for example

I've seen so many posts about how Proto wheels suck and "mine dehubbed in only two months!! WTF" following right after it while people who I ride with here in Canada have been riding the same Protos for well over a year (and hard).

I started to look at the common denominator, climate.

I noticed a lot of people who are having these issues live in a very warm climate (Cali/Aus) and people here where I live only see temperatures over 25C a few times a year. It's starting to make me think the heat and riding for hours on hot asphalt weakens the bond between the urethane and the core.

I'm not saying people who live in colder climates don't dehub wheels but I think the heat could speed it up?

What say you?

Ive been thinking the same, except about chunking. I remember when here was like 30C like a week, many of my friends chunked their wheels. I also chunked my eagles.

wow ive never really thought of that, so basically if you scooter never move to cali :p

Hahaha well now I don't know about that! All the awesomeness of Cali weighs out a possible theory on the life of a wheel!

On another note, this theory doesn't take into account sketchy ass riders or sketchy tricks which probably do more damage than the heat.

thats so true because when its winter and i ride indoor or street and none of my wheels chunk or dehub but now since its getting warmer my eagles are chunking and plus i live in south carolina

As long as its dry you can ride in pretty much any temp unless its below like -5 ahha

Well proto is based in Vista,california...so you would think Andrew would put the heat issue into consideration after he started noticing what the heat does

this. the heat isn't the issue, people that don't break in there wheels, land sketchy, and do flippy whipy tricks all the damn time is the problem.

I see we have a scientist here hahaha

Like I said dude, those things you mentioned are all factors in dehubbing wheels but how can you say it's environment has NO effect? We have sketchy riders here as well and for some reason their wheels are still in one piece.

And about Andrew being in Vista and stuff, I only used Proto as an example, what I'm talking about spans all wheel brands. There's no question he tries to take into account all factors when designing a wheel and a bonding material but sometimes mother earth can still win.

i believe this is true. i used to break wheels alot when i lived in florida, but i dont realy have wheel problems anymore. i think the heat has alot to do with it, but it can also make your wheels stronger, if you bomb hills and shit.

At skateparks ive had shoes melt to ramps, so i don't see why the metal in cores couldn't heat up destroying the PU bond. seems like something company's should research...

yeah this is true, heat, humidity, the salt in the air, deffinatly all factors to consider, and then on top of that the sketch riders. glad i don't have to deal with designing this stuff haha.
