How do you safely remove bearings with these wheels, do you just get a flathead and stick it in one of the slots and hammer the bearing out or is there a less damaging way?

Yep, you're totally right the problem is with the shim. I didn't think the evenness of it mattered so I just used a hacksaw, and its at least 20 degrees off lol. Thanks for the help

Get wax and melt it onto your deck with a lighter near the edges of your deck :D edit: also if youre just starting out, maybe try grinding something other than a concrete curb unless its really smooth. you cant grind super far and it tends to tear up your deck
