well I also follow esports so idk I'm not sure how to feel about this, I mainly don't care
1. the xgames are a joke anyways, they're trying to take a form of self-expression and turn it into a contest, legit skateboarders, bikers, and everyone else recognizes that xgames is all about money and that's all it ever has been. Cod actually makes more sense because there's a quantifiable winner and loser without any subjective judgment from a panel of judges
2. esports are legit idc what any of you say. however, cod is kinda a pariah among the esports community because of its relatively boring gameplay and shitty competitive environment. However, it appeals to the masses because cod is like the best selling game of all time or some shit. so I could really care less about cod, it's full of the kind of scrubs who watch the xgames in the first place: little kids.
3. lol why do you care about recognition do what you want and do what makes you happy. the two scenes that I'm involved with in the action sports and esports communities are the smashbros scene and scooters, niether of which have really had much wide-spread mainstream support. Smash has been exiled from the serious esports and fighting game communities for awhile for being a "party game" and "not legitimate." Recently, melee was the game that had the second-highest turnout for any fighting game tourney ever at Evo 2013, and it's beginning to be accepted by the mainline fgc, especially after the smash documentary. It doesn't matter, smash has thrived on grassroots tournies and created its own scene and scooters have done the same and it's worked out well so far.

i dont really care that much about xgames in the first place because its the first thing any adult asks me about when they find out I scooter, so i don't even really care about being associated with a name that only attracts 6th graders and their grandparents. however, i do find it pretty disgusting that something that I hate as much as video games has made it to a "respected" level. i think this is fucking shitty for more people than just us because its making something that is already terrible for society and culture as a whole and making it even more socially acceptable than it already is. in 30 years every kid is going to have some gaming system of the future in their dark room and "action sports" are going to die out and wil have been taken over by something artificial. no self expression, talent or skill involved. i mean, in all reality, the people who are the face of action sports and compete in the xgames are a very small percentage, and thats because its not for everyone. not everyone can or will learn the skills those people possess, but putting something like video games along side of that, gives kids a false sense of entitlement when they start to play video games. they'll think its no different than bmx or skateboarding but in reality anyone can become "good" at that shit, so its going to take over.

i gave up on the X-Games when they started taking Vert events out. Inline Vert was one of my favorite events to watch, and then skateboard vert. i havent owned a TV in forever though, so i don't really care anymore; i just catch highlights on youtube. i think its rediculous that they've put a video game event into the x-games though. granted it obviously takes skill to be good at games like that, it's not very fitting of the x-games. nowadays its all about moneymoneymoney.
