My brother did lessons for a while, drums are pretty natural for him and he wanted to get better, but the instructor pretty much told him everything he did was wrong when it wasn't, so my brother never went back.
TL;DR- be careful with instructors because some suck

yeah i know about how some teachers are like that. but i want to play because it, like your bro, comes naturally to me. I play freeplay mode on guitar hero lolol. I just go on youtube and watch how to videos and songs that i like. And i know gh isnt close to the real thing but i can actually play simple beats like on my uncles set

yea i took lessons for a good year and my instructor was great but didnt teach me more than beats and different genre patterns, he said i was a natural but i wish i had enough money to buy a good set, throne, insulation to block out sound so other people in other houses cant hear me play and more time to play

When it's my birthday I'll get money and I'm selling my scooter when I quit soon so I'll have like 500 bucks by my birthday do any suggestions for a good set? Ludwig and tama are good but sorta pricey. I love the sound of vintage drum sets if it cuts options down

you can make any kit sound like vintage, just get the right heads if necessary, you shouldnt need specific drum shells apart from dimensions, just tune it to your liking and youre set
make sure you get meinl cymbals, even the cheap ones like under 100 dollars are still really good

I prefer Zildjian cymbals because that's all my dad ever used, basically anything that's not Wuhan should be fine.

You're welcome. And when it comes to sticks, it's all preference with size and brand, so just find what you like and don't change it too much.

I've been playing for seven years now. Here's the run down of my kit.
2it2ctg.jpg

It features:
-Pearl EXR Export series shells (not made anymore) in strata red.
-The sizes are
--8" rack tom
--10" rack tom
--12" rack tom
--13" rack tom (I mounted it as a floor tom, still sounds low and damp)
--16" floor tom
--22" bass drum
--15" snare (on the left)
-My other snare is a 14" Black Panther Maple Series
-My pedals are Tama Iron Cobras. They aren't the fastest petals, but they deliver some really powerful kicks. I would rather have gotten some DW9000's any day.
-Cymbals (from left to right)
--14" Zildjian ZBT high hats
--16" Zildjian ZBT rock crash
--8" Zildjian ZHT splash
--18" Zildjian rock crash
--18" Aquarian china (kinda cheap, but I love the sound)
--16" Sabian China (cracked, still amazing)
--20" Zildjian ZBT rock/jazz ride
-All my heads are Evans G20 coated series heads. I also have dampening Remo Rings to keep all my drums sounding damp and short (you can see one of them on my snare on the left). My bass drum head is a Remo Weatherking Powerkick 3.
-My throne sucks. I wish I had a Pork Pie.

All of it? Around $3000. Yeah. Im a drum bum.

The 18" Aquarian was a gift. But my guess was that it was about $70. Its a pretty cheap cymbal. The other one, the 16" Sabian, I got for $5 at a drum store because it was cracked. But I couldn't resist because of how amazing it sounded haha.

That's real lucky, I've been looking at China Cymbals and double pedals but i have basically no money and they're all so expensive.
