Flange or Flangeless?

Flangeless. Makes the scooter look better, and they get in the way. So you wouldnt be grabbing them or them in the way for tricks.

does anyone know the actual point of them?
i would guess its to stop your hands slipping down your bars seen as though bike bars tend to curve down like vultures...
