If you are riding toward the ledge on your toeside it is frontside since your frontside is facing the ledge. For backside if your heels are pointed towards the ledge as you come up to it that is backside. I hope this made sense.

For boards, boardslides are backwards. Most boarders go by the way you spin to get onto the ledge.

Meaning for backside boardslides for us, since you spin frontside a bit to get onto the ledge, it would be a frontside boardslide, not a backside boardslide, even though your heels are towards the ledge. Same thing in reverse too.

if youre regular:

bs lip would be riding up like you do a normal boardslide (on the right side of the rail), then spin to your right enough that you end up facing backwards-ish by putting your back wheel over so its on the left side of the rail.

fs lip would be riding up on the left side of the rail then ending up doing a regular boardslide by your back wheel getting over the rail again (the opposite way).

hope this helps in an easy-to-read-ish way :)

No. I know tons of skaters, and none of them go by that. It's all about the approach, the way you spin into the grind is what really determines if it's a lip or boardslide.

Back board - approach with your back/heels towards the rail, jump frontside into the boardslide so you're sliding forwards

Front board - approach with your toes towards the rail, jump backside into the slide so you're sliding backwards

Back lip - approach like you would a back board, jump backside into the slide so you're sliding backwards like a front board.

Front lip - approach like you would a front board, jump frontside into the slide so you slide forwards like a back board.

Yeah tyler what are you thinking? Its which side you are coming to it, not the spin.

And lipslides are the same thing, you just get your backwheel over the rail.

This might be the stupidest thing you have ever said. R-Dub is right.

Ok, I didn't say that's how it is. I said that's how some skateboarders look at it. It seems to be mostly vert riders that I have heard this opinion from and I do not think it makes any sense. I have not ever heard that from any street skaters. I was simply sharing some information on the subject that related to what he was asking.
