I just made a wikipedia account, and i thought i'd try and add articles about the sport of scootering.
I think it would help attract some attention, as wikipedia is used by thousands of people. I believe that it might also convince people to take our sport seriously, as well as help them to understand it.

However, if this is to work, i need permission/support/help from all of you.

Do you think that this is a good idea? Please post up, and let me know.

seems good but A little while ago I saw something on scooters there, and they were talking about tricks and other goodies.
that's true, but there should be more articles with more detail.

i'd like to make a wiki article on sr, there isn't one yet.

or get permision of individual riders, and post up some little bios.

also team articles.

I've tried to make an article about SR, but its hard to make it noteworthy enough for the other people not to delete it.

I'd be glad to help, just give us a link once you've actually started it.

OK OK OK. Guys, I am a Wikipedia editor of two years, so lemme give you the rundown.

Wikipedia has some rules called "notability" that are really dumb. Basically, you need media attention or the ability to write an article about something without consilting a primary source. So don't post stuff about SR or we might lose the links already in "kick scooter".

Also, unfortunately the only people "notable" enough for WIkipedia would probably be one article on Team Razor (and maybe Team Micro). Team Razor has had a decent amount of attention and people will be less able to object. So no articles on Kenny Owens.

What we can do is set up our own wiki (which I am in the process of doing at Wikia) that we link to from "kick scooter", "razor", etc. There we can put up anything we want about anything scooter related. I and the SR mods will likely admin a project if something like Scooter Wikia got off the ground.

That beign said, if I weren't at a public terminal I would get more info for you all, but I have about 25 seconds left. Expect more coming soon. Meanwhile, keep editing to a minimum so that Wikipedia doesn't hate us.

Well, that was kinda the plan. The idea was to make two or three articles about important stuff, and leave it at that. And i can assure you that I had no intention of taking the time to create a Wikipedia article on the biggest post whore :)

Allright, that makes a lot of sense. I just had thought that I would have been the first, but a new wiki would work even better. Also ahem, if admins were needed, there's plenty of people that could help out, hint hint.

LOL

We just need one big article called Freestyle Scootering or just Scootering and a little paragraph in the Kick Scooter article with a link to the main one.

I've got three hours of net, so I'll explain a bit more and fix up "kick scooter".

For those who don't know, wikis are sites anyone can edit that have info on them. Wikipedia and other wikis like it use software called MediaWiki for allowing people to edit and stuff. Thus, a wiki is a great way for people to collaborate on stuff (such as, say, "List of threads whored by Kenny").

Now a scooter wiki is undoubtedly going to be attacked by vandals. i can see the hordes of dumb skaters replacing the main page with "SCOOTS R GAYYYYAYAYAYY!!!1!1!!!1!noenen". That's why we need more admins than you can shake a stick at. Admins can IP-ban anonymous editors, ban accounts, protect pages from editing (either by nonregistered users or by everybody), etc. Thus, every SR mod will be an admin straight away (probably), and we'll add more once we find out you're not a skater in disguise. With a bit of effort, an SR wiki will be free (ish) of vandals.

Unfortunately, I have 3 days until I'm cut off of the net for a month. So if anyone likes the idea of a scooter resource anyone can edit, I'll start setting it up in August.
