Humans are stupid for thinking that every life form needs water, we evolved to use it as it was on our planet, for another species in another galaxy they may drink mercury and water could be a toxin, we just are too closed mined to realize it

I spent 4 month learning about space and alien existence and I can guarentee you there are thousands if not millions of other developed and functioning life forms out there. Who knows how they look but the chances are they look absolutely nothing like any alien ever made in Hollywood.
I think it's pretty much impossible that there isn't.

I think the scientists are looking for water based life because they would probably be the most like us, and if worse came to worse, we would know how to kill them. But discovering arsenic based life would be a hige scientific advancement.

But there's for sure aliens out there. There's almost no question about that.

astronomers look for water because its the solvent for the only type of biochemistry we know exists.

which is probably the case, but how would we know what to look for? theres a ton of different chemical compositions that could theoretically support life, but the only one we know that actually works is the one we are made of, so it's the only one that makes sense to look for.
