Bars off Fork?

Today I bought this off a friend (it has a front wheel). The forktube is either too wide, or the bars are too slim as putting them on took us 40 minutes, when I tried to take it apart nothing worked. I lubed the shit out of everything, hammered, twisted, and pulled. How can I get them apart without screwing up the fork and bars (the only parts I need, deck can be destroyed)?

Stick big screwdriver in holes in forklegs. Put it on the ground like you would ride it. Put ALL your weight on the screwdriver so the fork doesn't go anywhere. Pull/twist up on bars? If you have a vise it will work better.

are those inward ts? if they are it says on their website not compatible with ics because they're a bit thicker that normal bars.

@Garrett - Tried it

@Smell, these are older and they do work with ICS. This should be irrelevant, because if it can or cannot run ICS isn't an issue when the tubing is too small to fit around the fork.

@702- Yeah, I bolted it all down and tried to take off the bars...

Take two cars. Strap the forks to one and the bars to the other and have them both drive in opposite directions. Try it.

I was actually going to chain it to a tree, not joking haha.

Smell, I just said I did that. Reading is a skill, use it

actually it is not irrelevant because as you are experiencing thicker walled steer tube doesn't fit over fork tubes therefore not compatible with a compression system that requires putting the bars over the fork tube e.g. ICS and threaded

Can you get a flat head screw driver in the Slit? Try and open up the slit while twisting the bars

I'm going to do this.

Although why would someone sell slitted bars that cannot fit over a fork tube?

That's true for thread less forks but it seems that threaded forks are just a bit smaller, I know RUP forks are.

One more tip, if you use a hammer use a rubber mallet and alternate each strike left and right, sorta impact wiggles stubborn bars off

I know this sounds weird, but try riding it, I know this is a scooter, but as an example sometimes people can ride seized crank arms off when they don't have the power or tools to remove them... It will be screwed up riding it but it might work

Ride your bars off = gist of that^

Tried this earlier, to no avail.

It is quite hard to ride the scooter without a front axle or the headset being close to compressed.

whenever i cant get bars off a scooter at work i just stomp it till they come off, make sure not to bend the fork tube. But it sounds like youve tried this.

Heat up the bars to maybe expand the metal? Wd40? (heat before you wd40 so it doesnt catch on fire)

wd-40 was the first thing I did haha.

The screwdriver did the trick, although now I have a problem, the top cap from the headset on the MGP (threadless) isn't remotely compatible with my Cane Creek (threadless). When I moved out somehow that was the only part out of all of them that got lost. ha
