I got a vx1k a few days ago and its all dark blue and almost black when you look through the viewfinder.
Is there any way i can fix it without having to my a new cable for $170?
give it a good smack a few times and if that dont work then send it here. only place to get vx's repaired. Ive sent over 10+ VX's to kerry and its perfect everytime
Hey thanks for that Josh, ive seen that site linked on a few forums i found when searching what was wrong with it. I guss i need a new cable. I dont want to spend that much money, apparently if you just buy the cable you can do it yourself?
honestly i have never replaced the ribbon cable and i dont think i ever want to. when you get a vx you know going into it your most likely going to run into problems so like 200 bucks to get it back knowing its 100% ready to rip is worth it. unless you send it in and he tells you theres a bunch of shit wrong with it. I had one that was like 440 to repair. That was shitty haha
Yeah i know its a big risk doing it myself. I mainly wanted to be able to see through the viewfinder properly so i could set the colours nice and make sure the footage looks crispy because i probably wouldnt be looking through it that much for filming unless its longlens and i guess i can still see a tiny bit, fisheye lines i wouldnt be looking through it obviously. I saw a video on youtube and this guy showed what settings he put his vx1k on and he showed the menu bar through the viewfinder and i guessed what i was scrolling down from looking at the video and turns out i got everything right and the footage comes out nice now, i check it when i hooked it up to a computer. The only problem now is that i cant see what im filming lol. Ill replace it when i can atleast the main problem i had is fixed, thanks though.
yea but you cant just set your colors one time. it depends on the time of day, if its sunny, cloudy, your white balance might be off. If you cant set the VX up right then its gonna look like garbage and be pointless to use haha. I would just use it until you save up enough to get it serviced then treat that camera like a handicapped child after that and guard it with your life haha
you might not want to try it yourself. Iveworked on my vx before an d it can bes scary. One time i replaced the ribbon cable and while everything was apart i went to pick upthe camera by the handle (like an idiot) and disconected the wires from my mic lol. then i promptly shipped her to kerry and she came back good as new.
