Freight hopping, hitchhiking, etc.

Has anyone ever freight hopped and traveled like that? I really want to do it but all of my friends are fucking lames and are never up for adventures... and doing it by myself is just dangerous and scary. It just seems fun. Dunno. Did you bring a board or scooter with you?

I wanna hear your stories! If you've never freight hopped and you've hitchhiked before, talk about that! I want to travel around the US soo bad.. but not by airplane because you can't really experience things with that. Ugh. I need new friends.

I've jumped on the back of a city train a few times and got a free ride to the next station (with mates of course, never do it by myself). Until it gets to the next station and the guard sees you, he's just like 'what the fuck is that stupid kid doing'. Like they can't believe you actually ride on the back of the train. They act like it's the most dangerous thing you can do.

The real question is, has anybody ever tried train surfing? I've made it halfway up the side once, got pissed scared and backed out haha.

what a jabroni

oh ha ha. just so you know, i'm not some kind of homeless bum. just a bored college student looking for something to do. no one looks back in their lives and remembers the days they stayed home and got plenty of sleep so get up and go take risks for a change.

if anyone has anything negative to say, you can get out. obviously I know the dangers associated with this and if you're going to come in and spew some sarcastic ----- it's not welcome.

I've always wanted to run along a box car traveling at low speeds and hop in it, and trek through rural areas.

If you know your way around trains in Sydney you can find coal / freight timetables.
They make scheduled stops outside of stations, but the information is highly private. Once you have them though, you can catch freights anywhere in the country. It's uncomfortable / bumpy, but if you can bear it, it's a free ride around anywhere you want.
