Help please feedback on new project!

Hi, thanks for looking at this thread, I really need some feedback please from the people that matter-scooter riders!

After spending more money than I could afford buying my son a scooter (yes it was cheap tat!) and then pimpimg bits we ended up with a nice looking but dodgy scooter, his mates all rides JD Bugs extreme model costing £100 but apart from a stronger deck didnt seem much better for the money, or Razors same again, decent deck but bearings and other bits very cheap.

I decided as have an engineering background we would do our own scooter for him, we are just finishing his and wanted to run the specs past people as can see a bit of a fun business for us to run and a way to get people decent scooters at a fair price. If you could just have a look at the basic spec and estimated price below and just give us some feedback as to if you think it sounds good, if you would be interested in buying one etc just to see if other people are in the same situation as us wanting a decent product at a fair price and if its worth us trying to do as a business, thanks folks.

Aircraft alloy deck with reinforced welded gooseneck to make a very strong and lightweight deck, the gooseneck is square construction so similar to razor ultra pro deck but with square rather than round and slightly thicker. Brake is milled out for lightweight but also retains strength and is grooved so no foot slip in wet weather etc.

Abec 9 quality bearings with full ceramic balls the same as with bones ceramic bearings.

Yak Allloy core 100mm wheels.

Yak foam grips.

Jessup grip tape covering full deck.

The bars we are still working on to get strength and weight right so not finalised but will be quality.

The whole package will be hand assembled and we are aiming to sell for £80-£90. The bearings alone sell for around £50 for similar quality ceramics, wheels £20+ etc etc so the parts alone without the deck almost cost the retail price so we think we have a winner but what do you think, we need your opinions good and bad, cheers, Joel. P.S. We are also working on a second deck very similar to the new district deck/phoenix quality and strength and that full scooter would be around £120 but with same running gear as this one so still potential bargain compared to deck prices.

sounds really good and strong mate. give it a nice name, make a heap, make a website and it will go good for you. especially if they are cheap and strong. can you put some pictures on here of it

Hi, really appreciate your feedback, at the end of the day if you guys dont like them there is no point making themm will get some pictures on asap, just waiting on bearings to turn up and to finalise bars (i know i can put some cheap bearings in for photos as doesn't matter but cant bring myself to do it as I know its not right, sad eh!
My sons initials are LG so I was thinking of calling it LG Pro scooters? just LG Pro for logo etc.v got a mate who is a graffiti artist doing some logos so will all be cool stuff.
Also we live in Newquay england so will be able to promote here but when sorted will hopefully spread out round uk then the world, lol! Once got some pictures if you like the scooters could maybe send you one to help promote in aus?

Cheers again,

Joel.

^^^ everyone is going to want to "promote/test" it because it sound sick, just make sure you test all the parts and not just give them to the same rider to test because each rider is different. The scooter seems to have really strong main parts like deck, bars and wheel and should't need replacing straight away. Im up for testing/promoting (along with the rest of australia) anything you want in Western Australia if your going to do that. I'd go through with it but would't go all out straight away just incase the sales aren't what you want them to be.

Cheers Matt that kind of feedback is great, we were happy with both in testing but got alot of sites saying metal is better so we thought if we want the best go for them but if plastic core last well and it can keep the price down then im all for it, wont be going for the cut costs approach but if we do save money on things like wheels it will come of selling price so good for everyone!

Also cheers to everyone for offers of testing etc. once sorted and got them on sale in Uk will for sure by looking at Australia and USA and to be honest as well as looking at shops would rather give some scooters out to you guys to give us some feedback and be rolling adverts than pay a fortune to advertising companies for a few posters so I will hang on to names of people who offered and when time comes will be in touch!

if you go plastic core wheels i would use razor pro wheels and u could get them hot glued makes them stronger. that would keep the price down and there good and strong once hot glued. they seem to be stronger then the yak skat metal cores. but if u want a another wheel i would say get a different metal core wheel or use razor pro wheels which u can get really cheap. The scooter sounds sick. also post up pics when u get a prototype done. and hit us up for testing and we will tell u the cons and pros and also advertise it for you.

i like how you're all basically begging for him to send you free shit. half of you are probably spoiled with amazing scooters that you can barely ride.

^^^^ so true ^^^^ its all about just getting new parts these days, how bout you buy new parts if you actually need them, after you break them ? i just dont get were kids these days think that parts are gonna feel different and whatnot ( excluding a few parts like crows, thom cat forks, ect) its like ok if you have a 110 mm fork with a 10 mm offset and you go out and buy the newsest coolest fork that is 110 mm and has a 10mm offset its not going to be any different than the looks ?

but thats off topic

on the other hand i think the whole idea of a strong, affordale scooter is great. the thing is this is what district did ( with decks ) and look how they turned out. so before you try to make it as cheap as possible remember that quality counts also.
