HIC Problem

Okay so my HIC comes loose like every 5 minutes, and I can tighten it as tight as possible, but after I put my bars on and ride flat a little, it just starts wobbling. I honestly have no idea what the problem with it is, could anybody help? :l

its probably because the topcap is touching or is close to the top of the forktube, so try using a spacer.

I have 2 spacers on, and like an old headset race, theres like a quarter inch of overhang from the shim to the fork. I checked the threads on the compression bolt, perfectly fine. I might have to use loctite. I don't understand though because when I first got it I didn't have to tighten it for like 3 days of harder riding, but now its just every 5 minutes.

I tried like two, I started off with the stock VertX one, then I went to an origin 8, now I'm back to the VertX one and it still comes loose? The VertX one was fine before I swapped them out.

Is the top cap slightly wider than the Shim?

It could be that the bars are clamping down around the top cap before hitting the shim so when you turn your bars you are turning the top cap.

I'm not 100% on this but a kid here had the same problem- his his would come loose all the time so when I took a look at it it seemed as thought the top cap was wider- I filed down the edge of the top cap so that it was even with the shim.

It seemed to solve his problem

3 things that should help (to go along with what Broccoli1 and others have said.)

-Cut down your fork and get rid of the spacers. Spacers, especially double stacked spacers allow your compression to come loose easier.
-Use threadlocker on the compression bolt and clamp bolt.
-Tighten the clamp bolts tighter(use a cheater bar on your hex wrench if you have to.)

If you do these things i bet it will solve your problem.

I really don't want to cut my fork down, because if I do then I'd be screwed with any other deck I'd buy. Could I possibly make a larger HIC shim that would eliminate the spacers?
