Horrid Compression TSI (standard) Trons, Thom Cats, Tilt Lt (Standard) SCS, Tilt Headset

NEW PROBLEM: Upon making sure that the bars didn't wobble in the clamp (with a soda can shim), the entire compression (headset cap, fork, bars, clamp) wobble. People then make an argument that finish on your bars (if too thick) can screw an scs, but I'm wrapping an entire additional sheet of aluminum around the already existing powdercoat to make it solid. Verdict on that?

- The compression cap sits flush on the lip of the scs, and there is about 1/8 of an inch between the cap and the top of the fork. Do I need to cut my fork? Where do I get spacers? My fork is already cut about .5inches to make the 1/8 possible and it still needs further modified?
- The starnut is about an inch down and perfectly straight
- I have a tilt compression cap (washer not bike cap) for the scs
- Bars are powdercoated with soda can shim, bars now stay tight in clamp but now everything moves as one

Been a month of janky ass garbage on a 100 percent new setup. Ready to ride something nice already.

Just reverse thread your scs bolt from the outside in and put a quarter againtst the side and tighten it and there you go it has now expanded enough to put the shim in.

I'm aware of that, but it's an scs, not a clamp.

- Could I get away with only doing the top 2?
- Is there any particular order I have to do it in?
- Can I do 2 at a time or do I have to do each individual bolt?

Just do the top 2 take both bolts out thread one backwards expand clamp put shim in put bars in and undo everything then tighten it.

Sand the finish off the bars ONLY WHERE it goes into the scs. So sand off the paint off the bottom inch and a half or so. Also try a new headset or check your headtube for ovalizing, and check your fork for bending.

when the clamp is tight how does the slit in the back look? is it even top to bottom? that can answer it most cases
what finish on the bars? scs and bars new or used or ancient

wow, I remember when the scooter resource actually used to be helpful. What happened to this forum? It's dead as shit. Not to say none of you weren't of any help, but that I've only managed to get 3 people to respond to this thread in the last 10 days

Most bike shops should have headset spacers, just go to one and ask if you can try it on and see if it helps then buy it

do you have no other parts, like other forks, scs's, bars, and headsets? you could try swap out each part with an old one and see if any difference is made

it'd probably be a bit easier to understand and fix if i saw it in person haha

yeah it sounds like something is fucked up. What fork are you running? It says tilt, but tilt forks either have integrated starnuts or run the threaded insert shit. Just keep trying, I'd get some headset spacers (I just use old headset parts, whichever ones I can get my hands on cause they all work) And fuck around with it, it could be a number of things. I can't imagine why your bars wouldn't tighten in your SCS in the first place, I'd contact someone at tilt about that because that sounds like a defective SCS, especially if the bars are painted; it should have been difficult to even get them in there. Just try different spacer combos. Also, your starnut may not be deep enough, so what you can do is put spacers in between the top of your bolt and the headset cap so you have less bolt to thread into the starnut and it may tighten better. When you tighten it, does the bolt go down all the way and press on the cap?
