I went to get a new headset today (have been running stock forever) and the guy at my skate shop said I have to properly grease the bearings when I get it. What do I use?

And how do i get out my stock headset

it really doesnt matter what i use, as long as its smooth. sometimes i use vaseline, sometimes bearing grease, sometimes other types of grease. it really doesnt matter that much

and another question if I get a headset that comes with a crown race do I have to tale the stock one off and put that on or do I just ride it with the stock crown race?

put the new crown race on, there is a change that they are different and you will f*uck up your headset if you go riding with the stock crown race. Btw, you can use any grease in the headset, as long it is smooth and isnt a oil. So it HAS to be grease, NO OIL!

ya I know lol but I have always run stock headsets and I finally decided to get a new one so I don't know how to install it lol

So ya how do you get the stock ones out? Do I put the flathead on the inside of the head tube or the outside, like for hammering it out

you get a big wrench the ajustable ones, you have to put it on the 2 top nuts. unscrew them until they completely come off the fork tube. Then screw off cups that hold the bearings. then take the fork out of the headtube and get the bottom cup with the bearings. then do that opposite to get your new one on.

I own SR.
Inside. They make tools for it or the bike shop can do it to but it is simple enough with a screwdriver and a hammer.
