I know there is a cannabis thread and all, but you guys only talk about smoking it in there so this is the thread for discussing the legal aspects of the plant.

Lets start this off with an article proving that the government feeds us lies. Don't Blame the Reefer!

feel free to bring any opposing opinions. just because you dont agree doesnt mean we will get all hostile :)

Well, i only like to talk about this stuff high. And i am soo
Basically when i was watching the union, it made me realize that marijuana is 100% safe. And it does a lot of good deeds such as curing disease's, Healing muscle pain, An easier way to go to sleep. This got me thinking, if it does all that good, why not make it legalized to everyone? Honestly if it does something good, and is organic, wouldn't you make it legalized? It's already medical usage, so why not make it public? I really don't know.

And also, the prices of weed would drop, because it would be easier to get. The government would get money from it.

awww the Union, great, great movie!

it's not really 100% safe for you though because smoking ANYTHING is harmful to your lungs. but it doesnt cause cancer

Yup, it also slows down reaction time and makes it difficult to concentrate, which is why it would be used responsibly like everything else in the world.

My cousin is in jail because she stole phones from sears and got caught and went to jail. She got out but didnt go to court, and they drug tested her and she tested positive for black tar heroin. She gets out in two weeks

weed isnt 100% safe, if you have existing mental problems, it can mess with brain chemicals which can make it worse at times but no way to tell if you are safe from it but it wont kill you. its not legal for the reason that pharmaceutical companies cannot patent and profit from it so its not considered as a viable medicine. the way Canada works with weed is the best way, you can pretty much smoke it in public and they only go looking for big time dealers leaving others safe to use at their own risk

not always with the last part billie, it depends on the cops
and the only thing that is medically considered a health issue in marijuana usage is in children who have an early disposition to childhood-onset schizophrenia, which is extremely rare.
according to Dr. Judith Rapoport...
"We've been studying childhood onset schizophrenia for the past 20 years, it is very rare. It's only 1/300th of 1 percent of the rate for the adults."
so we understand that this is very rare, right?
well, according to http://www.schizophrenia.com
"Experts estimate that between 8% and 13% of all schizophrenia cases are linked to marijuna / cannabis use during teen years."
now, what they don't tell you in the beginning of the article, which can be found here is that this is only in children with an early disposition, or weakness to getting schizophrenia. They're going to have the same increase in possibility for getting schizophrenia as if they drank alcohol, or even used pain killers after getting a surgery.
i put a fuckload of work into that post, so appreciate it

I don't smoke weed, but I am for the legalization of it. The only reason I don't smoke it is because it is illegal lol. My view is that it should be just as readily available as tobacco and Alcohol, considering it cause less damage to one's health than either of the other two.

Everryone saying that it's less dangerous than alcohol or tobacco is obviously right, but think about this: There's absolutely no way that if those two substances were just introduced, that the government would have legalized them. But once they legalize it, they can't really take it away again. That's what they're scared of with pot (which is stupid).

This. I've seen cops blazing on their breaks lmao.
Obviously it's still illegal here but the most I've ever seen a cop do is confiscate. They don't give tickets or anything.
Even when they come to the skateparks that reek of weed 24/7, they're only there for helmet checks haha.

It only seems safer because less people smoke it than people who drink and smoke and die from it, its just because less people do it so less people die from it, its probably alot worse for you.

my uncle doesn't smoke cigarettes only pot. has been for 25 years.

he has developed schizophrenia, and is always depressed unless he does it. he told me he's addicted to it. my other uncle went to rehab for it, so in my opinion it's eventually addictive. i support the legalization but im never gonna do it.

You're not serious, are you...

The problem with legalization is that no one has a vested interest in legalizing pot. Big time dealers up the chain love that weed is illegal. The high price is entirely because of the risk of dealing. So they have an incentive to keep weed illegal.

The only people that would benefit are the casual users, who either aren't loud enough to convince people or don't care enough about it to do anything. In many states, weed is decriminalized - casual smokers in those states really don't have much incentive to push for legalization.

---

As for whether marijuana is addictive, it is psychologically addictive in that you can become addicted to it the same way you can become addicted to eating food, playing games, or riding a scooter. Unlike cigarettes, it's not chemically addictive. So it can fuck up your life, but so can most things.

Not true. You can't overdose on it. It's physically impossible. You are also WAY less likely to develop a cancer from it, because the substances in pot actually encourage aging cells to die faster, whereas tobacco prevents them, thus causing a tumour. It is infinitely better for you than cigarettes or alcohol.
