(Move to Gen Discussion?) Finding Courage to Go Big After Breaks/Other Injuries

So I just got back into riding and managed to break my hand...after 3 days. Granted, I was going harder than I ever did before I quit while also being on a scoot that I wasn't used to...but yeah. So I can't ride for a minimum of 3-6 weeks now. Right hand. Cast. Riding is still all that's on my mind, but I never knew you could land so HARD. I've smacked myself up quite a bit many times in the past, but you can usually catch yourself and roll. I now wonder if I'll be reluctant to start going big again. I got over the fear of pain fast, was riding wayyy more resilient than I ever was, but now I remember you can get sidelined for weeks or months with fractures. How do you guys do it?

lightning doesn't strike twice, theres a really, really, really low chance you're gonna fall like that again, but it depends what trick you're doing

i usually get annoyed at myself if i cant land a trick and it bugs me for ages until i land it again, and sometimes i usually dont get bothered by the pain idk haha sounds metal af

A lot of times I get hurt doing stupid shit, like I'll be feeling a trick out with one foot on the ground or something and my deck will hit me in the ankle or some shit. You generally learn how to fall, or don't fall, depending on what kind of shit you do. Like whenever I ride with Matt (mckeen) he never fucking falls, like ever, because he is just that good at bailing; he'll run out of a trick like 20 times and be nowhere near doing it and then just do it like its nothing. But yeah getting hurt sucks ass and you need to wait to be healed or else you can run into even worse injury. Topricin is your best friend.

The worst thing you can do is to try the trick you fell trying just for the sake of landing it. Take your time and start by doing smaller things again until you're confident enough to go bigger. Work your way up.

it really fucks up your confidence for sure. i broke my thumb 4 weeks ago and i started riding a few days ago again and its really really hard to get back into the groove of warming up, feeling tricks out, getting the confidence to try a trick, and the general flow of riding but you'll get there. after every injury i usually get more careful and learn/analyze how to fall the next time something like that happens, but i dont let it take my riding down at all because its just not worth it to me. i do think injuries change your riding a bit so just try some different tricks, stuff you wouldnt normally try. once you have a good week or two of riding without falling (take it easy) then you will basically have your confidence back. and honestly i never even get hurt trying really hard/big stuff because im totally ready for the fall, i know what to do if something happens etc., i ONLY ever get hurt on stuff im not expecting to fall trying. its really stupid but thats just how it goes so the fear coming out of the injury isn't even real.
