pegless smiths inquires

So yeah pegless smiths are fun and I can lock onto them for like 5+ ft on coping easy.

BUT when I take it to the streets, more than 90% of the ledges I do them on (even like concrete ledges with mad wax) will catch on my deck and send me over the bars...

so my questions are:

1) am I doing the smith wrong ?

or

2) should pegless smiths only be done on certain ledges (like marble) ?

Happened to me before, I think its because the front part like under the head tube catches it so you have to make sure that part doesn't touch the ledge
