I got myself banned.
my year and a half old mgp threaded fork finally bent so its time to step it up and go threadless. soon ill be getting a tilt fork w/ proto baby scs to go on my non integrated district. i realize i need to cut my bars (standard size grit batwings) 1.5 inches but the slit on them are about 3 inches and i really dont want to use spacers. i was thinking i could just cut about 3 inches off an old fork and use them inside my bars where it's being clamped. this way the slit can not compress very much if at all... would that work?

cut an inch and a half off the bar and then put something like a cut old fork tube in the bar at the slit so the bars dont squeeze and it will be solid. ive heard of it working before

I have a question. Do I really need to cut my bars even if they have a slit(1 inch)? Does anyone ride scs with a slit and what's are the down sides to this?

i ride with a slit and its fine. as long as the slit isnt huge. and try to put the slit at the front of the scs so the part where it compresses is solid.

DO NOT ride scs with a slit in your bars unless you have a fork tube to give the clamp a solid surface to grip. Riding scs with a slit will make your bars fall out and/or twist like crazy

If you have a slit in your bars and want to use sacs here is a place you can buy an internal shim for your bars
