Shortest Triple Flat (and similar tricks)

Before you read on, just understand that this is purely for interesting debating only and not to claim/list records anything like that, so if it doesn't interest you, please just move along :)

So anyway, I was having a debate/argument with one of the Razor guys about flatland riding. I won't go too deep in detail but for the most part he disagrees with me, BUT he doesn't ride flat so maybe he can't relate as well as I can.

My general point is that a lot of flatland riders tend to either be older or taller, with ages rarely going below 16 (at least that's what I gather from travelling to/around England/USA/France/Spain/Germany.

From doing so, I've met Cooper Klaar, Josh Kish, Remi Bouchard, Jean-Yves Randriambelson, Monky McMoran, Danny Roberts, Dustin Nooner and Dakota Schuetz, all of which pretty much tower above me.

But even people I haven't met, such as Noah Risser, Bryant Walker, Nolan Sorenson are also really tall as well.

My belief is that being tall makes it easier to ride flat, because you can have taller bars in comparison to the deck.

Anyway, I think that I might be one of the shortest people to Triple flat. I learnt them when I was 16 and I was/am still around the height of 5ft 3" (pretty short) There's footage if you wanna see but I'm sure you can believe me at this point haha: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmRpowxjnlk

So I was interested to hear whether people agree with me, or if I'm talking complete bogus (maybe even showing me footage of a shorter person riding reputable flat) It doesn't have to be triples, it can be anything like:

360 Double Whips
Rewinds
Bris/Inward (though I could Bri and Inward flat when I was 13 and about 5ft tall)
Front Scooterflips
Bar to Whip

What did the title have to do with this.

But i agree, you don't see too many younger street and flat land riders.

im 14 and im 5'1 and i cant double whip flat, i can whip to bar and truck flat and stuff. my opinion is its kinda more strength to do faster whips flat because you have more control and you can whip it around a little faster. idk. but bris flat at 13, thats really impressive. this is completely off topic but did you just sit in front of your house trying them till you got them? or did you have really small bars or something.

That's not bad :)

Good point. Dakota Schuetz is younger than me BUT he's a pretty well-built guy. He can do Fakie Triples flat in a line.

Also, thanks :) I used to ride 22 high and could briflip up banks but then I built a different set-up (a Micro) and the bars were only like 16" High and within a few attempts I could bri flat. Then I eventually cut my normal scooter's bars down from 22 high to 18.5 high and could still manage them :)

Double whips are do-able with all kinda of different bar sizes, heights, etc. I'm talking more about the highly respected flatland tricks such as Triples, 360 Bris, Fakie bris, etc :)

More height generally means more hops and more leverage for whipping and whatnot. Of course, being too tall means a whole other bunch of problems. But Joe Riley is pretty tall and well built, and he is quite good at flat riding. Same with Mckeen, with his triples and 720s. Also, the weight ratio between a scooter and a tall heavyset person will be greater, so the scooter is lighter in comparison to them than it is for a short person.

I'm 14 and an inch taller than you and my bars are 20x19.5 which I find really uncomfortable for flat, it's because when I'm doing flat I like at least 21 high bars otherwise I struggle to actually land tricks. I can truck and double very easily - atleast I could - on my razor but when I moved to my French ID, the only terrain I found and find comfortable to ride is park-street and park, due to that, I lost a lot of tricks. Also, Postema, I think you've hit it bang on the head.

You're right there but you still have to be comfortable with the specs.

i was probably 5'3 when i learned bris and triples, i was pretty short until i hit a random growth spurt last year.

postema, i'm only 5'7 haha. average height if that, i'm definitely not tall.

I'm ashamed I'm 6'1 and I still can't double lool. I only got back into the game like a month ago, and was never very good to begin with, but I still feel like I should be able to. I think height and size definitely give someone an advantage, but I don't think it's everything. I'm still only 15 though and just shot up recently so my body is still sort of adjusting to the height increase, like my muscles haven't quite caught up yet.

I'm not sure what bar height to ride to give me the best balance of comfort and advantage hops wise. I ride 25 at the moment, but I know for instance matt somers who is 6'4 rides only 24 high. I think taller bars might be limiting me, but I'm not quite sure.

that's what i like to hear haha.

matt's pretty damn tall. when i first learned triples josh had them pretty dialed and he wasn't much taller than me. he's also had triples for years and he looks short in his older videos, i never knew him in person back then though.

don't forget about AJ and T-nips. tommy napolitan was always really tall but AJ isn't much taller than me and he was one of the first to triple flat, also had the first half cab triple flat. still the only one to film it, but i hear about a lot of people doing them now.

nooner and rayan both have them on lock and neither of them look too tall. definitely not as short as 5'3 but not tall. ryan upchurch was my height when he had triples flat, too. uhh.. i'm not sure who else.

although i can say that bar height seriously affects whips, i just went up to 23h and it's a lot harder now but i still have them. nowhere near as close to half cab triples as i used to be, which is a shame because i almost had them.
