i planing on making a deck just 4 myself not for sale or anything and i was just woundering if anyone could recomend some good steel ive been told that 4140 is quite good but its low weldability might cause a few problems

he is right 4130 is a tad spendy in square stock,
hard to weld as well
but if you did do it correctly it would be pretty damn strong but heavy,
try thick walled 6061 aluminum or so would be the best route to go as far as your bottom dollar goes
yes it would have to be tig welded but you can find a certified welder to do it for ya (some auto places)
also costs money

but good luck im going to be making mine soon after i sell my guitar stuff

If he wants steel he knows its going to be a bit heavy silly.
Chromo would be your best bet.
