Tilt Fork Help

I recently bought a broken tilt fork from my friend. The top cap was only screwed in about 2 cm and it ripped out of the fork after landing a big gap. The Top of the fork is bent and the threads are strips. What do you guys suggest I do to make this fork riderable once again?

cut some of it off and is the top cap ok? if so use it otherwise put in a star nut, you might have to sand off the threads for the starnut to get traction on the fork

Alright so I cut the bent part off. Now I need to file down the threads. Should I use a 1 inch start nut or smaller?

It's gonna take more than a file to make a starnut fit. You have to drill. You can use a 7/8ths starnut & the wall will be thicker or use a 1" starnut & the hole will be bigger with thinner sidewallss

Also only still about an inch & a half down into the fork, just far enough for the starnut to go in

Well if you cut the bent part you can just use the threads that are still there

Don't got the top cap

Are you sure? I had no trouble cutting it and I'm pretty sure you can file anything. Just need some elbow grease. And I will probably use a 7/8 startnut. Do you think they sell them at bike shops?

Lol. I'm definitely not spending $15 for a top cap when I can file down the threads and buy a 50 cent star nut.

Lol. I really don't now why you got so defensive. I don't want to spend $15 on something that should cost $2 and I don't know why you think I won't be able to file down the threads. You should really go out and ride instead of arguing over the internet. If you don't like something I said, go to a different thread.

ok,then instead of spending $15 spend like $7-10 on a big enough drill bit so you can trill the threads out.

theres no way your going to file all of the threads out

I can drill it in my woodshop class for free.

I really do not understand why you guys think I can't file them down. I'll try it tomorrow and let you guys know how it goes.
