Treadless forks

will a threadless fork still work if you just put on normal bars with a split and put a clamp on or will it slip out compresion just seems unnessasry

if compression was unnecessary we would not recommend nor use it.

I think you have the wrong idea.

Compression is to compress the headset so that it spins smoothly without wobbling, the job of a locknut on threaded forks, not to clamp the bars to the fork. A normal clamp will take care of that.
