I don't know if this is really in the right place but, I want to get a new camera and can't afford a vx so does anyone know of any cheap alternatives?

Panasonic GS series. Highest of which would be the GS500. It's a 3ccd and has a handful of manual settings, great camera.

you dont seem to know what youre doin, you should clarify what you mean.

do you want a prosumer camera? or do you not really care? it seems all you care about if its big and has a handle with a mic.

SD is dying out quick, and is these cameras are old and will break. This means shelling out cash on repairs.

you should really just get an HV30 if you want to work with tapes or a sanyo fh1 if otherwise. both are incredibly cheap for their performance.

trust me, a new hand like you has no buisness going into SD Mini DV cameras

if he doesnt have enough for a vx1000, then he sure as hell cant afford a dslr setup. you should just save up and educate yourself honestly.. best thing you can do right now.

SD has been "dying out" for a long time supposedly, but there's still tons of tapes on sale, I'd say it's still far from its armageddon. Stop bitching at eatch other, kiss & make out and go on with your lives. Let the "HD vs SD" and "camcorder vs DSLR" discussions be in another thread, cause these are whole diffirent topics that people have been yacking about for ages and never seemed to get tired of it.

Jamie is on point here. Since camcorders already include zooms, optical stabilizations and what not, it wouldn't be smart to buy a DSLR and spending a shitton of money on lenses. Get one of these on the list and work around its manual settings to get the hand of it, then later on in your life if you decide to upgrade, then you'd know how to properly use any camera's properties, cause god damn, even some of the top mgp/envy/flippidybrand videos are filmed with the wrong shutterspeed at indoors causing the lights to flicker.

Anyways, you asked for vx1k-like cameras, so I'm
assuming you'd be looking into SD and not mind tapes:

Sony TRV 900
Panasonic DVC30
Panasonic GS series (350, 500?)

You might wanna look up on Skateperception's Classifieds and 3CCD cameras only sections.
