I think everybody but Rob is wrong here.... The OP asked "what is the smoothest wheel"...not what are the fastest wheels.
Grippers are the smoothest wheels
Sliders are the fastest.
Two totally different things.

VertX and Proto wheels are super smooth.
Phoenix are pretty smooth, but apparently they are sometimes really fast, and sometimes really slow.
