bad idea?

so im saving up money to buy new bars because i broke my good ones. So right now i have these like 18 tall bars that are WAY to small for me. So what i did was put on a threaded fork and instead of just putting on 2 lock nuts on, i put on 4 and a headset spacer to make them taller i assume this is a bad idea... but why?

no if anything it'll b stronger cause theres not as much leverage pulling on the fork tube

Basically what dustin said. Enough forktube to clamp on with a double clamp is all you need really.

What about to much fork? Say, what would happen if you used a inward on an old MGP without spacers?

wouldnt work because it will go pass the threads.
and if it were threadless, it wouldnt work with SCS because theres too much fork (more than 2 inches), or HIC wouldnt work because the shim isnt long enough (unless special made).

but if for some reason there is enough thread, it wouldnt matter because the rest of the fork is dead weight/not doing anything, the slits dont even go that high (usually).

So you could cut the fork down and use ICS, then if you get a different deck later get a SCS and longer bolt?

cut down threadless inward on mgp with ICS?
yeah should work, i remember seeing Michael saying to not cut your fork but i forget why.
if you want to use scs later, make sure your leave 2 inches of fork poking out of the headtube so the scs will work.

You probably don't, but more fork tube = snap snap. Also cause getting a starnut that far into you bars would be hell

^^^not really i used to run ics on my mgp it was easy hitting it in more just dropped a fork tube down there without any legs on it and hit it with a hammer
