Nothing wrong with being a graphic designer. It's a tough world though because anyone with a ripped version of Illustrator thinks they're a "designer" these days. But keep it at, build up the portfolio and if you want to strike out on your own, maybe work a marketing side too. Don't just be a "designer", be a "marketing specialist". There's plenty of work out there, just have to prove you're worth being paid what you need to be paid.

You got potential so keep it up.

Its not like I didnt make money dude, trying to make shit for unimaginative people/ having no guidance doesn't make you a better designer, or support a portfolio

Sorry you couldnt take the crit, I'm tough because its everything to me. but you can't possibly give a shit about design, look at how you address it, going straight for the money.

anyway this isnt a pissing contest over connections, its me giving my opinion about the worth of the struggle, and offering guidance

Damn, im never on here, and i still cant make it friendly.

Thanks for the feedback guys, In understand how hard it is to break into the design market as I am only a uni student an am still building my skills and portfolio. Anyone who actually wants me to design for them expects me to do it for free or next to nothing, but that doesn't worry me to much at the moment as I just want experience doing actual client work.

why dont you just make something for a company you want to design for (not just scooter related), and come to them with it, even if they dont want it, you still have the work/practice.

but NEVER do ANYTHING for free or next to nothing, it makes people think the have the right to take advantage of you and other designers.

i dunno what websites you look at, but ffffound.com lovelypackage.com behance.net and blue canvas magazine are some of my favorites.

Yeah sounds like a good idea making work for other companies like you said. Most of the stuff I do for free are small sports clubs, schools, friends etc. so it's kinda hard to charge them. yeah I check behance, abduzeedo, creattica, and all those. thanks 4 the advice

That statement has been around a long time, trust me I know, I'm the old dude.

But it is really a half truth:

If you suck, it doesn't matter who you know.

If you are good and don't know anyone then you won't get work-

Work is all about connections.

As mentioned DON"T work for free. I know, tough to do when you are just starting out and you are excited about Graphic Design. If your local connections can't pay hard cash, BARTER, as already mentioned. Do one for free perhaps but after that "pay up sucka!"

The problem with doing work for free is that you become the bargain basement designer and you are taking work away from established designers.

Once you become the established paid designer then you'll understand this concept :) and you have to pay for your overhead.

Don't give up.

Don't tweak shit to death- easy to do in this digital age- GET your portfolio in to the hands of people that will possibly hire you.

This happens a lot with Portfolio Prep- people agonize over every little detail to the point where the Portfolio actually never gets sent out to Art Buyers.
"If I just do this then I know they'll LOVE it and I'll get the job"

Ever seen an Art Buyer's office? Stacks of Portfolios

This is where the "Who You Know" matters. YOU need to know who they are so they can know who you are.

It takes work to get work.

Don't get all pissy if someone doesn't like your masterpiece- but if 4 out of 5 people don't like it then go back to the drawing board.

Be careful on showing your work in the Forums- only because you'll have 3 billion or so critics- unless you are willing to roll with the punches that come along with such a large pool of people to make comments.

You are in a good spot, being a student, hit up the Art Buyers for a Portfolio review, they are more likely to help you out now then after school.
