i have a canon t3i, i want a good dedicated flash for taking pics in my lowlit skatepark. any ideas?

also, my on camera flash only lets my shutter speed go up to 1/200 when the flash is up, do dedicated flashes let the shutter speed go up?

Not sure what you mean by dedicated.
But i have this flash and it works awesome: http://www.amazon.com/Yongnuo-YN-56...qid=1359762006&sr=8-1&keywords=yongnuo+560+ii i can shoot up too 1/250 ( enough to freeze motion )

Works on camera and off camera with wireless triggers. And it comes with a nice case

Sick. That's exactly what I wanted. Can it be triggered wirelessly by the built in flash on my camera?

I know the canon speed lites can

yea but the on camera flash light has to somehow hit the red part on the front of the flash. I would get triggers just to make it easier. It even comes with a flash hotshoe stand which is awesome.

no but get the cowboy wireless triggers they are cheap and work amazingly.
It works, just not all the time.

if your looking to just use the one flash, here is a good trigger set i have: http://www.amazon.com/CowboyStudio-...7&sr=8-2&keywords=cowboy+studio+flash+trigger i have two receivers for my two flashes tho

I have to do some research on triggers now. Haha

There is pocketwizards too, but those are 300+ dollars. Honestly the cowboy studio triggers work good, have never misfired for me and they work from like a ridiculous distance. Just getting into off camera ( like i am ) these are fun to play with.

Yeah they seem cool.

But to understand right, I can trigger the yongnuo to flash when it's not on my camera, by my on camera flash, correct? How do I make my shutter go above 200 when my on camera flash is active?

Yes you can but theres like a 80% chance it will miss fire. The camera flash has to hit the off camera one on the red piece on the front limiting your abilities. And Your shutter cant go above 1/200 on camera with the on camera flash. If you get a off camera flash and attach it to the hot shoe it will work above 1/200 but a black line will appear after 1/250 (happens to all cameras)

Ok, i get all that. Now, do you know if any of the yongnuo flashes have the high speed sync where it will go above 1/200 shutter speed?

pretty much all flashes that are off camera go to 1/250 because thats the shutter speed that stops motion.

Example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ryanweaver419/8374720077/ i took this with my flash off camera at 1/250

if you want something that goes above 1/250, you need expensive flash things

Yeah, yongnuo makes a 460 ii that's like the same except it doesn't have a screen or as many power options. Think $30 more is worth the extra power options & screen?

I think so, may be a little bit easier to use with a screen. But the other one is good

I got two yn460ii's, they work! But if I was you I'd try and get the yn560ii better because of the better features, better build quality and more powerful :) Not that much dearer either.
