The bottom of the fork legs are clearly slanted. I don't know how you couldn't see it. I can't see the gussets or cutouts either, but it's pretty clear.
By the way, you said you were sure it was an SR fork, not that it probably was.
You just answered your own question. Make sure you use a quad clamp that goes all the way around in the middle, not like an Envy clamp. Also, make sure the HIC shim doesn't go up further than half the height of the clamp.

You may think they feel the best but they aren't even close to the strongest. They are weak as hell and everybody breaks them where the legs are attached to the tube.
