As you can tell by reading everyone's posts, it's opinionated and not one width is better than the other. It all depends upon what you prefer. I already stated that smaller bars are generally easier but that does not make them better. It's preference, everyone is different.

Smaller bars are easier, obviously, and wider bars are easier for whips, so just figure out a common ground and use whatever size you can do bars and whips with ease.
