    Get rid of the vertical supports, which definitely are not needed, and get rid of the nub at the top. I think it would be sick to have them just like Proto Wing bars, but instead of straight gussets, make them curved like in this thing. But definitely make them smaller than they are now.

    If you have access to a mill, it will make cutting the slot for the wheel/brake much easier/cleaner. If you are relying on just hand tools, a hacksaw is your best bet. It will give you a much straighter cut than a coping saw.
