The inside is bored out to use the HIC shim, without HIC, you can't run the bars. they're meant for threadless forks only so if you're running threaded, get the 1/4th if threadless, and buying with a HIC shim, (or if it comes with one) get the HIC bars i'm not sure if it's thicker/stronger...
