1 inch starnut in Epic Fork?

Hey guys so I have a epic 10 fork and I'm switching to scs. I have the 1 inch starnut that came with my headset and when watching darger's tutorial on how to install it, he mentioned that 1 inch starnuts will not fit in the thick fork tube of epics or scorchers. He says to use a 7/8 inch starnut but I really do not want to pay 3 dollars online for one haha. If any of you know if I can install the 1 inch starnut into my epic forks, I would appreciate it!

If you try hammering it in, its just going to break. What you have to do is use a saw, and cut a bunch of slits thoughout the starnut so that it can bend more and fit.

I would think that you can take some vice grip-like tool and pre bend the prongs of the starnut, then it would be easier to tap in.

1.stick a alan key in a drill
2.tighten bolt all the way into the starnut
3.stick alan ket in bolt
4.make a fist around the starnut with sandpaper inbetween
5. let it rip!

thats how i'd sand the flangees out :)

If you dont have a 7/8" starnut. Just take a Dremel tool with a sanding drum or use an angle grinder and grind down the o.d. (outer diameter) of the 1" star nut, then like Parrish said make the slits a little deeper so it will bend in easier.
Whatever you do don't try to put the 1" star nut into a heavy-wall forktube (like Scorchers, etc.)... it will go into the fork tube but it will almost always causes the silver part (threaded part) in the center of the starnut to com "un-crimped" from the rest of the star nut, causing it to spin so you cant get the compression bolt out. Really sucks...I know:rolleyes:lol
Id just spend the couple bucks for a real 7/8" star nut.

get the 7/8ths at a bike shops thats what i did because i had this exact some problem. i could never get mine to work sad to say but the sand paper one i never tried. the clamping thing will not work though. tried 7 times. if you do find a way to sand it you need to make the cuts in it bigger also. My solution is find a bike shop or buy off internet but i just said fuck it and get ics.
