Hey just wondering if anyone here shoots film or has shot film for video.

As in with super8 or 16mm film. Maybe some of the gnarlier Cam Ops - Brian etc

Im hoping to get my grubby little fingers on a 16mm soon and ive got a super 8 coming to get trained on.

Ive not seen any film shot vids on this site so i assume not, just wondering.

Instead of no one replying can someone just say dont be silly Farmboy no one is as cool as you. Thanks

I've shot Super 8. I got one at an old videographers yardsale. He had some decent film with it too and was still in good condition. I've never shot scootering with it but i guess it'd be cool. If i ever pick up some more working film for it (I ran out of the stuff he gave me), i'll film a line or two. It's just to get on the computer. He gave me a projector for $18 with it, so i just project it on a white wall and film it with me gs500.

Btw, its a Canon 518 SV

I have a super 8 for free at this dudes house whenever i wanna pick it up, like a 1 1/2 hour drive. Haven't shot any yet though, film is intimidating to me haha.

Its quite intimidating 'cos its single use, you cant re-use your film stock. Which makes it expensive if you cant film well, also you cant play back in situ which makes it more difficult. But results are NICCEEEEE!

Conor, to get it on your PC its worth sending it away to get transfered, they can transfer it to pretty much any format including all HD formats. Quality is reallllly good, people forget that everything you see on a big screen is shot with film, you dont get better quality with digital.

Problem with transfering is its expensive unless you send like 50000 ft of film (about 3000 mins of film shooting 18 FPS) Also adjustable frame rate meaning 48 FPS for me for slo mos.

Anyways. WOOP!

Yea, I was thinking about it, but unless I got some really good footage (but since you can't tell, I'd never know) I wouldn't spend tons of money on getting it processed.

I own SR.
I've shot about 10 seconds worth for my buddy which is basically nothing but he shot about 2 hours worth for his skate video and for the most part it all turned out pretty decent. It is just trial and error. The only way to learn film is to use film so get a job and start paying.

how exactly do you import the footage???
If you get a place to transfer it, they can give it to you on a mini DV tape, dvd or whatever you want. If you do it yourself you can just play it from a projector onto a white wall and film it with your camera.

They make converters too with a mirror and etched glass and you shine the projector on the mirror the it reflects it like 90 degrees onto the etched glass and you can film that. My buddy did that for some of his footy as well as getting it professionally transferred.

yea but the quality is nowhere near as good. And for me quality is one of the main reasons i wanna shoot film. So getting it professionally done on a telecine is much better. But to make it cheap (ish) you have to send like 50000ft at a time.
