bearing mantainence

I bought some new China Bone Reds yesterday afternoon. They were quite expensive at $35 per 8 bearings and i want to keep them in the best condition possible, for maximum speed and endurance and i have no clue how to do this. does anyone know?

you can buy some stuff at skateshops that you drop your bearings in and it cleans and lubricates them. or you can pour this stuff on them or something. http://www.zumiez.com/zshop/Product...yBrand=False&OrganizationID=-1&ProductID=3038 only $5
also clean them with a paper towel when they get dirty.
oh and make sure to put them in your wheel right so they are perfectly straight. like metal cores and some other wheels have problems with annoying clicking noises if you don't put them in right.
and like nick said obviously don't ride them through dirt, water, stuff like that.

Grease isnt bad for them, its just slow. To clean them soak them in a solvent (wd40, gasoline, etc.) for 5-10 minutes. I like to put them in a small bottle and shake them up in it, works faster/better. Then rinse the solvent off with water and dry them immediately with a hair dryer or air compresser so they dont rust. Then put a few drops of that speed cream or another lubricant, I like to use tri-flow with the teflon in it. Then wrap them in a paper towel to dry off any extra lubricant and slap them back onto your wheel. Brand spankin used. Good as new.

And yeah dont ride through water, mud or dirt, but thats common sense.

double post - 14 bucks is really cheap and i dont know what i should use... has anyone actually used any of these creames? or are you just guessing?

I use the tri-flow one, amazing. and Ive used the 3 in 1 and thats ok too. Pretty much any oil will work, just as long as your bearings have some lubrication in them.

If you bought those bearings for 30+ Australia dollars , I don't think you got ripped off. I think the conversion rate is 1 USD = somewhere around 1.5 Australia dollars so it is not so bad maybe? I don't really know the latest conversion rate but..

I seldom clean my bearings. Taking out the shields are bad. If you bend them , unless you ride shieldless , you ruined your bearings.I usually just use lubricant on my 24seven ceramic bearings when they squeak. I use Finish Line synthetic lube ( dry ) which you can easily get at bike stores.

omg guys, if u have good bearings, and u dont ride through mud, then ur fine. besides, its the wheel type and size that makes more difference than the bearings. haha dont usw wd40.
