Bent & Broken Bars Only

Photo request:

I know there is a thread for broken parts but I would like to have one with only broken or bent bars so I can get an idea of where you kids/youngins are bustin' these things.

If possible, include the Trick that caused the damage.

One kid at the skate park had his RUP bars snap completely clean at the Clamp- looked like it was cut off:eek: anyhoo- cut him a new slit so he can use the bars again

Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply. It really depends on the trick you'r doing or how you ride. my friend Keelan does a lot of park/flyout so when his inward victories broke, they literally broke on the top of the bars near the grips

or then you have people who prefer street and drops, and their bars mostly break at the clamp, where the little kid did, or like tom kvilhaug.

almost all slitted bars break on top of the clamp and the break in the barz origanates from the slit. i broke a bair of bars @ the slit jumping up a curb. almost always though a stress crack forms at the slit from lots of impact but the rideer doesnt notice, so the trick that actually snaps the bars doaesnt really matter......

That's true- guess I was just looking for some bent bars since as you mentioned the Slit propagates the break at the Clamp.

I mess around with fabrication and this is a new avenue and just learning the materials used.

4130-"chromo" is an interesting metal- "stronger" than regular steel but Stronger is a relative term.

A good example is a Drill bit- stronger than regular steel? seems so since you can drill through regular steel.

Stick a drill bit in a vise and smack it with a hammer- SNAP! breaks easily
Stick a piece of regular steel rod in a vise- smack it all day, all it does is bend.

Thanks for the input.

i think when companies manufacture barz they should add a supports inside the slit 2 make the barz stronger

You realize that with the thought process that you are having you could easily re-invent scooter parts and potentially revolutionize the sport. I might start following you and your posts because they seem to be well informed and contain interesting things you have made

This is only true if the slits come above the clamp.

Pretty much every bar breaks at either the slit or bends at the crossbar. Get an SCS and reinforce the hell out of the crossbar and you'll have nuke proof bars.
