if you can, get the s-3, they last way longer and there alot smoother. i LOVE mine. but if you cant, you should go with the s-1, for 12 bucks, its worth it.

Wrong and wrong. The only difference between the s-1 and s-3 is one is steel and one is aluminum, respectively. The bearings are exactly the same, so they'll last the same unless you get your steel cups rusty or break your aluminum cups. $12 is a steal.

well i broke my s-1 and i took care of that like a child
and my s-3 is working amazingly and im like kicking it in the face with my fist everytime i ride, haha, and i havent oiled it yet, so the steel/aluminum makes that bit of a difference?
