CHANGE

No I am not Obama but things are going to be changing around here. I have finally decided to scrap the site. It has been running like shiit for basically the last 6 months and no matter how much time or money I dump into it it still runs like shiit. I have been wanting to ad content for years now (articles, reviews, interviews, etc.) but the site has always performed so poorly that every time I attempted to insert new menus it would just crash and I'm over that shiit but that is what you get when you run a site this size on a free CMS. With the growth of the sport and the growth I foresee this is just not acceptable so we will be switching to a new system here in the next couple months (the sooner the better). HOPEFULLY all the content and accounts can be saved or that will be very depressing but I am tired of the way things are going. I made a post about this in general in the New Layout? thread if you care to read. Originally I brought John Radtke and Chris Gascoigne on board last year to help me update content on SR but we all see how that turned out. Once the new system is up and running I will be looking for people to help out again and maybe if we get enough advertisers on board I could offer some kind of compensations be it money or parts. I will need people who can actually put 2 words together though and form well thought out, logical pieces of WRITING.

Questions, comments, complaints, concerns blah blah blah.

I can write, but i have made a bit of a bond with Inside Scooters.
I say, don't bother keeping accounts, let everyone who still uses it get on and make new accounts, rather than keeping 8000? accounts most being dormant..
Also have SR down for a few days, while the mods/admins can get on and get cool numbers.
Hahaha, kidding.

But yeah, depending on if Steven and Jordan still want me on board, or if they can spare me as helping out with both, i'll definately try to help out if needed.
I'm definately looking forward to this site expanding and becoming bigger and better than ever.

Agh, it would so weird losing the info from the last 4 years. I like seeing so few active people who registered in 2005, my first account was made in june of '05 haha.

idk, im down for whatever will help the site, but i know kids on here usually go by post count/admin or mod status/and time registered for who is like, legit haha. losing 2/3 of that if everything gets erased.

I didn't make a very solid point, but maybe some of you will get what I was trying to say?

before you do anything you have to save some threads somehow, theres some serious historical stuff that should be saved.

Cant help but wonder..

Change i understand. However, werent John and Chris supposed to work with you to make a magazine? With you saying you want to start doing "Reviews, Articles, Interviews" aka all stuff that Inside-Scooters does. I have to ask, are you doing this all on SR, after seeing the popularity that Inside-Scooters has gotten since we started? Also advertising? Something we talked about last night..I thought you didnt want people advertising on SR? And it seems that now that I let you know Jordan and I are making some money from our advertisers, youre going to be allowing that now? Just wanted to know what sparked this sudden change. To me the forum is running fine? It doesnt crash anymore or run madd slow, or give those ridic errors. So I understand change, But why start doing things like Interviews and Reviews something that Inside-Scooters clearly already does? Just wondering..

damnnn... gonna be weird starting over.
If all goes well, we won't have to... at least on the forum end of things. All the news page content might be lost though. I will do my best to save what I can.

Also, Steven, to address a number of issues. Nothing that I do is spontaneous or "sudden" these are all things that have been in the works for months or even years and have been EXTREMELY pre-calculated but everything I do takes time and money... neither of which I have ever had an abundance of at the right times but the pieces are slowly coming together.

In 2005 I moved to Louisiana, worked for 6 months on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, saved $10,000, designed a library of scooter parts (that I spent all the money I saved on doing R&D and getting the SR store started and legitimized) and made a list of goals to set in the following 5 years after I moved home with the end 2010 being the deadline. The list is as follows:

1) Register SR as a legitimate business in the state of CA.
2) Open a web store.
3) Develop web content. (news, articles, reviews, interviews, etc.)
4) Start a clothing company.
5) Start a scooter company.
6) Start a freestyle scooter association.
7) Start a scooter based media company.
8) Get scooters in the X-Games.

As you can see some of the goals have already been reached while others are still in the works and they have not necessarily happened in the order I planned but I don't mind. I had a lot of hold backs in 2007-08 when I opened the new SR Store because the Yahoo system basically highjacked SR from me which was when the entire site had to be transferred to andrewbroussard.com. At the time I didn't have enough knowledge to resolve the problem myself nor did I have enough money to pay someone to do it for me so I just left it the way it was and focused on my store and my scooter parts/company to make some money to get the site fixed which is why the content and the clothing company both got put on hold. I needed to make money (off of scooter parts) to fix the site and I didn't want to add content to a site if I didn't know what the future was going to be for it and if it would all be lost when repairs were made. I had also wanted to get some advertisers on SR when the new store debuted but I was not about to have them advertising on "andrewbroussard.com" so that too got put on hold for over a year. Last summer I started looking around for a web person to fix the site (since I had a small income and savings from SR forks and BUFF bars) which is also when I talked to Chris and John about getting content going again... they flaked so I put the content on hold again because it is not the kind of project I am going to take on without a dedicated team to insure regular updates which is impossible for me to do on my own with everything else I have going on. I found a web guy in September and he fixed the domain issue and got everything back on scooterresource.com then the site started running out of bandwidth for 3-4 months if you recall. Each time the site went down more and more of the operating files corrupted which is what caused the ridiculous amount of errors towards the end of last year so I had the web guy switch servers and do a clean sweep of the whole site. Again I put all my web based projects on hold because of the inconsistent and poor website performance and focused on the projects I had real control over which is when I released PROTO. A lot of hours and money later the site seems to be working OK at best. The errors are gone for the most part but it now requires constant maintenance and it still runs slow as hell and I am not confident it can really perform under a serious user load... a user load which I am expecting by the end of the year... if not within the next few months because I have a lot of plans for this year and a lot of publicity which is going to generate a lot of traffic... like a lot.

The way I see it is I have been spending the last few years keeping this community patched together on a microscopic budget on a free shitty CMS and now it is time to do it right, now that I can (hopefully) afford it and get this sport a more legitimate image. First thing is to upgrade the forums, the front page and the content then I can focus on the rest of my goals since I have less than 20 months to accomplish them. With the new theme/layout we are dedicating ad space for companies to purchase to also help fund the community and the new costs of the improvements which has always been my plan. When I said that I do not want companies advertising on SR I mean I do not want companies whoring the forums. Until ad space is provided I allow most companies to have their own threads in the website section but nowhere else. Even if you are doing Inside Scooters you are more than welcome to help with SR too unless you see it as a conflict. In fact I would love that since I had talked to you about that before anyways. If I was trying to compete with you guys I would not have posted a link to your blog for the last 2 months on my frontpage. I think it is only going to help the sport by having multiple sources of reliable information. Regardless if Inside Scooters ever existed or not I would still be doing what I'm doing on the same time frame I am doing it because those are my goals and I'm not changing them for anyone. It is nothing personal and has nothing to do with anyone elses projects because I support anyone who shows me a mutual respect which you guys have and I support what IS is doing just like I support RAD and Inward. There are other kids and companies who do not show any mutual respect who I do not support and they have no business anywhere near the community that I created and support. Even though I do not agree with everything everyone does in the sport I can still acknowledge that it is expanding the sport one way or another. If I had listened to every naysayer I would not have accomplished anything so I'm sticking to my plan. The clothing company will drop by summer and I am nearly certain I have secured sponsors for my first officially sanctioned competition series this year through my freestyle scooter association so all that will really be left to do is keep promoting and doing whatever I can to improve the image of the site and the sport and gain media exposure then get it in the X-Games. You guys can work with me, against me or simply do your own thing and watch but I can guarantee no one out there has goals, a time line as ambitious as mine and is in the position to really make it happen as I have positioned myself to be so I am not wasting anymore time.

That is SHORT version of my business history and plan for anyone who actually took the time to read it all. The end.

Thats all well and good. And of course I support all of that. Although what happened to the idea of a "Magazine" It seems to me, and to quite a lot of other people. That now that you have seen what two people like Jordan and Myself can do with ZERO money to start off with can do with an online blog. You now decided to scrap your "Magazine" and simply do it online. Much like Jordan and I are doing with Inside Scooters.

honestly, X-games isnt a realistic goal at this point. it's become WAAAAAAY too commercialized, and they've pretty much destroyed any bit of what it used to be. its all megaramp bullshit now, and moto-x. i honestly think the Dew tour would be a more realistic goal right now.

Sorry Steven but that is just absurd... "quite a lot of people think that because I have seen what 2 people can do with zero money that I am trying to copy it"...??? Did you forget who you are talking to? I started SR in high school with the $10 it took to register the domain, hosting leeched off my friend, a 30 page html site and an AIM account and look at it now. I know how to make something from nothing... that's what I do best. I think it is kind of shady for you guys to be charging for advertising on a site that you use for free but if people are paying it that's chill for you guys I mean I even told you I wanted to advertise PROTO on there and I still do. I pay for this site... a lot... and I put your guys link up for free to help you out and now you are making money off it and I'm psyched for you. The fact that you are using a site for free and making any money at all makes you infinitely profitable, percentage wise, the most profitable scooter operation to have ever existed and I don't ask for anything because I do not want anything from you so don't come back at me like this. Why the hell would I ask to advertise on your site if I was just trying to copy it??? I even gave Jordan business advice on how to make IS really legit instead of a free blog and you guys haven't done it. It all comes back to the image. I do no allow kids to advertise stores based on freebie sites because it makes the sport look bad, granted what you guys are doing for the sport is great, it is still a freebie and until you guys take that next step it is always going to be and when one of the top sources of information for the sport still only exists in a free domain that just looks bad. I'm trying to help you guys out here to get established as good as you can as soon as you can because free ad links at the top of SR are soon to be a thing of the past. I have never charged anyone for advertising because it was cheap and I didn't mind paying for it but it isn't anymore so if companies want to come along and use the site to make a buck they are going to have to help pay for it which now includes you guys. Ideally I would have liked to keep SR ad free forever (including PROTO) and get rid of the SR Store (which is also happening soon). The only reason I haven't gotten rid of those yet is because that is what is paying the bills around here until the new site is done and I get advertisers on board to help.

Also I haven't "scrapped" anything. My magazine (which I just realized is the last bullet I left off the list and also happens to be the last of my priorities) is still on the list and it was always going to be online mag before it was ever print. It is not realistic to just write a bunch of stuff, print it and hope it takes off. That is why I brought Chris and John on to write content for an ONLINE Mag and I told them once we had built up enough content I would take all the articles and publish them as the first edition of a REAL Mag. I'm not going to be "blogging" about pictures and mini videos, I am going to be writing full length, in depth articles and reviews about the sport, it's history, it's role in the extreme sports kingdom, it's progression, it's future, the different "scenes", months in review, competition coverage, etc... which is still something that no one has done so it really isn't the same thing at all.

Just because it is commercialized does not make it unrealistic it just means that the people involved will actually be able to make a decent living off of their sport instead of being a bunch of broke little scooter kids forever. If the X-Games picked it up you don't think there wouldn't be a million more opportunities for other riders to spawn from media exposure of that magnitude. Whether you love it or hate it, the X-Games is the ultimate action sports venue. I agree that they are blowing it right now the way they run things but if they put scooters in my attitude about it would change real quick and so would everyone elses. If you don't dream big you'll never make it big. Scooters WILL be in the X Games.

well i think getting scoots into the Dew tour would be a better first step towards tv/media exposure.

and i honestly havent watched the X games all the wa through in at least.. 4 years. they're so fucking stupid now.
