clamp is not tightening chromo bars

so i made homemade chromo bars. outside diameter of 1.25 and i cut the slits like 1.5 inches and i made a copper shim and my pro clamp will not clamp it tight enough.
so i took the pro clamp and cut the one side of the inside off so it could have clamp tighter and i tighted it with a rachet so its as tight as it can get and it still wont clamp it.
i go ride for 10 minutes and the bars come flying off.
my friend said it was cuz the slits were to small so i made them bigger than the old wee v1's and it still will not clamp it..
sooo any suggestions- help?
like im out of ideas to clamp these. and i thought maybe the pro clamp wasnt strong enough to clamp chromo but everyone else who has chromo bars uses pro clamps fine. so wtf?

copper is really soft and will flatten out. also, you f*cked the bars by making the slits too big. you need to find a clamp that fits, or get a shim thats made out of a harder material.

i dont think it messed them up cuz i cut them to long but maybe i cut them too wide. so what should i get to use as a shim?

yea but what i dont understand is why i cant tighten it enough. i cut a section of the clamp out so it willl not bottom out and i tighten it as tight as i can and the sides r far from bottoming out and it still will not hold. but i guess i will take the copper out and build up soda cans shims. but im doubtful it will work :(

yea dude. i already did that. didnt work for some reason- really weird.
i only cut one side tho, but when i tighten the clamp as tight as i can its no were near bottoming out so thats not the problem.
its almost like the pro clamp doesnt have enough strenght to clamp it. ill try some tape over the can shim- ill do it now

wow FUcK ME!!! none of that stuff works. tried soda cans, used a WHOLE can then put tape around it. had to stretch my clamp to even get it over that stuff put it on- tightened it as tight as i could with a rachet- and wow 2 minutes of riding and suprise, suprise
