cleaning a camera lens

well somehow my camcorder lens got dirty, and i tried to clean it with a little bit of windex. it mostly made some more smudges that look really bad, so i'm assuming that that was a n00b thing to do. is there any way to clean a lens without getting a cleaning kit? any household items, etc, that i can easily use? thanks.

breath on it and use a soft shirt.

f'real, the moisture you breath out is slightly acidic and is great for lenses. make sure the shirts clean though, you dont want any particles in it to scratch the lens.

ive heard that your shirt will put little scratches in it, not sure if thats true, but im not testing it out with a $300+ lens......

i just bought a $5 lens cleaning kit. came with a cloth lens cleaner, a little brush thing for getting dust off, about 200 lens tissues and a lens cleaning formula..... i think it was worth the 5 bucks....

windex?

i sure hope you didn't have any kind of coting on that lens. buy lens cleaning cloth and fluid from like anywhere.
