Competitive Aerobatics/Aviation (Flying)

I doubt anyone on SR fly's or even knows about aerobatics but if anyone fly's or has an interest in aviation, this is the thread

I own SR.
I went sky sailing (tow gliders) out at Warner Springs and it was one of the raddest things I've ever done. I used to want to be a fighter pilot when I was little like as my dream job but then someone told me if you don't have 20/20 vision you can't do it and I wore glasses so that was crushing. I would like to learn how to fly someday though if I ever have the time and money to play.

I'm a Pilot. I recently got into Aerobatics. I've used a Zlin Z-50 for practice because to get Aerobatic rated I need 100 hours in an aerobatic aircraft.

I hope I can buy a Z-50 in the near future. Should be fun.

Very nice man. I've got an hour stick time in a Z-50, I'm checked out in the Citabria 7ECA Aurora, and the 7GCBC Explorer, I'm working on a check out in the Super Decathalon and a Great lakes biplane. But I also have about 15 hours stick time in the Pitts S2-C and a few hours in an Extra 200!!! Awesome fun! Are you a member of the IAC (International Aerobatic Club) ?

Andrew, having bad vision these days doesn't mean you can't fly for the airforce. There is a certain lasic procedure for pilots. Sorry to hear that myth detured you from a dream!

Haha, not yet. I'm finishing up my Commercial Lisence and going to fly for UPS as an intern for a few years then fly fore them starting at 40k a year. That's keeping me quite busy right now. It's slow too because I have to learn it all in a wimpy little Cessna 172R.... I wish they'd let me use the King Air. D:

I'm planning on joining soon, I just need to take care of some last stuff for school first and then I should have free time. Sadly, I can't say I'm as dedicated as you because my motorcycles will always be first in my life.

Those procedures either weren't around or were way out of budget back then so I never thought about it any deeper than that at that age. I would still like to learn how to fly one day just recreational or be able to fly aerobatics in those gliders would be awesome too but I can't see it being a career ever again especially with SR being my main focus but you never know.

When I worked off shore in Louisiana on a drilling rig in 2005 I talked to a water plane pilot who just flew around all day delivering tools and urgent supplies to oil rigs. It sounded to me like it could have been quite possibly one of the chillest jobs I've ever heard of so I suppose that could always be an option down the road because my whole family has connections in the oil field down there.

Ya dude you don't even need it to be a career. Sure its expensive as fuck. But there is nothing more relaxing and thrilling at the same time as flight. And aerobatics kicks everythings ass nothing is more intense haha. maybe scooters....

I love flying. I got my private pilots license a few months ago and am going to get my mountain checkout as well. I want to fly F-16's for the Air National Guard.
