End the sponsor video craze!

I just wish more people would make vids of them and there friends doing like a fun day thing at a park, thats why i love riding with dibbs, he just goes to have fun and ride. He rarely, and i mean RARELY gets any vids anymore. Im not very good, but i still like to ride with people who are just there to chill and ride.

I mean being sponsored would be nice and all, do not get me wrong, but its like everybody is trying to do that and only that. I started riding scooters because i saw people having fun by just riding and doing stuff you could not possibly think that could be done on a scooter. Theres times i feel jealous of people who are sponsored because there getting all this stuff for free, but then i realised after talking to BK that its not really free. You devote your time to having fun and riding just because you enjoy it, if you get sponsored it just makes it more convenant to get stuff easier, but still in the end, the point is to just ride. By looking at all the guys like Josh Toy who have been riding for long periods they still ride there ass off to just do it and have fun, and i truely love watching people in vids have a great time doing what they do.

littleman, the thing is watch gregs videos. Look how devoted he is to the sport, a sponsorship means nothing if you dont like what your doing. Greg worked for it, he deserves it.

I dont see why it would bother you, alot of great videos are sponsor videos. I loved filming for my 288 sponsor vids, and i ride purely for fun. Plus the dream always motivated me to try new things. <3.

im sick of poeple riding to impress...im out there for the fun of it. dont mind people trying to get on teams or get a name for themselves because u meet so many new people through that but what realy ticks me off is when people ride to be the best and impress.
ride for the fun of it thats all i can say lol.

your one of the few exceptions, this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YhC8Z5oyFI shows that you ride for the fun of riding, i watch this video like one or twice a day.

ive been waiting for someone to make a thread like this, last time i brought up this, i got biotched at

really looking forward to hopefully riding with you on the 22-25 :O

some people don't have much money and ride a scooter that will fall apart on them so they need sponsorships and usually those people are the ones shredding for fun without thinking much about their scooter

This is another rant, but hopefully this one isn't as controversial.

I love riding my scooter, anytime I'm on my scooter, I'm pretty much having fun. I might get frustrated if I'm trying something, but no matter what (with very few exceptions) I'm having fun. However, every time I go to the video gallery thread, all I see is "Sponsor Me" or "Eagle Sponsor" or "I need sponsor ASAP PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE". It seems like you guys are caring more about being "sponsored" then actually having fun riding. It seems like the "mini video" name, has been replaced with "sponsor video" and it really agitates me.

Besides the point of having fun, I also must point out that 99% of sponsor videos are useless. Look at any sponsored rider (a REAL sponsorship, not any "flow team" or small time team. I'm talking about proto, inward, eagle PRO team, RAD, etc..). All those riders (with very few exceptions) never in their entire life, created a sponsor video. They have proven over time that they are great riders with "great" attitudes towards riding. Any legit sponsor will care just as much about a person's personality as they will their riding ability. Sponsor videos not only don't show your attitude towards scooters, but almost makes it worse. It shows that you would rather spend your time making a sponsor video, then having FUN (this isn't always the case, but lots of times it is).

I own baystatebars and from a company owner's stand point, I would MUCH rather have somebody send me a video, where the rider makes me laugh my ass off constantly, and just has an overall good vibe. The whole "scootering is serious as fuck epic drama music" is a HUGE turn off towards me and a lot of other people for that matter. I'd rather see somebody having tons of fun, shredding on a scooter, and make me want to pick up a scooter as well.

All the best sponsored riders would be riding no matter what. If they were sponsored or not, they'd still be shreddin'. All these sponsor videos seem to depress the whole mood of scootering to where it's all about being the best, or all about having that title of "pro scooter rider". Lots of companies could care less about a great video, and just will COME TO YOU when they want to sponsor you. Professional athletes don't go to companies for sponsorships, the company goes to them. When you are at the point of being sponsored, a company MAY OR MAY NOT come to you.

END THE SPONSOR VIDEO CRAZE!

jon jacobs sponsor video 2 is one of the best videos i have ever seen.

i reckon scootering (and filming) should be for fun and not to get spono'ed. If you wanna get spono'ed its only so u can help the scootering scene out in you community, and not the free parts

lol just let people do what they want? haha

that, and kids used to ask me if i was sponsored, and i always said no..."why?"...because i dont care? haha

so all in all, i agree with your post cus it wasnt really attacking anyone in particular, but regardless, idc if people want to make sponsor vids.

i can also assume most of the kids who arent as talented yet putting out sponsor vids dont even realize they would have to send it TO the person they wish to be sponsored by lol.

Ok conor, just for you, I'ma make a sponsor video. It's gonna be edited in windows movie maker and have a million flyout briflips and triple whips, and I reckon it will give me a good chance of getting on baystate bars naaddaimeeeeeen?

Seriously though, awesome thread, this needed to be said sooner or later.

I'm sick of hearing "Do what you want".
I'm not forcing anybody to do anything, I'm voicing my thoughts, simple as that.
troof. A passive attitude is the least productive way in getting other people to see things a certain way.

I constantly get messages and e-mails from people asking me to hook them up with sponsors. I typically tell them all that they shouldn't rush into sponsorship. Because it only adds pressure to your riding to keep proving yourself to everyone on top of your sponsors. I also tell them to just enjoy riding for what it is, not what it could do for you.
