In every sport, extreme or conventional, filming is an important aspect. In extreme sports filming is just about necessary. To show skills and progression, and especially to get sponsored, videos are something that a rider must have. As the saying... READ THE WHOLE STORY HERE

I got myself banned.
I think our sport is to small to make dvd's as of yet. I mean i get what your saying, but not all DVD parts are as good as web edits. Every scooter DVD i've seen so far has had some preety damn dodgy filming, that goes for Proto too, Some of the filming in that was wack and shaky as but you guys apparntly said it was guna be amazing haha.
I think scooter dvds shud wait until the scooter teams start getting alot more legit and travel the world for the good spots like skaters.

Dude, I'm so glad you wrote this. I think about this same thing everyday. I always get messages from people asking me if I still ride. Anytime I go to a competition someone will tell me, "Oh, I thought you stopped years ago." No, I just don't put out half-assed web edits every week or month. Granted, It's been a damn long time since I put out any A-material videos, so I don't blame people for thinking such things.

Alex, you're 100% right when you say that there is so much more to a video than getting enough tricks to match the length of the song you want to use for a video. I could go on forever on this topic, but you've said a good amount already.

Real quick for the responders: Using the term DVD is incorrect...What you mean to say is "full length video." DVD is just a way to present a full length video. Full lengths are important because you can create events around them (ie Video Premiers). You can't fill a theater with a 5-minute edit. A GOOD full-length can also change the industry overnight. Look at how many people bought Lakai's after "Fully Flared" came out.

Cant finish this response...gotta go back to work

Thank you for this Alex. I have been working on filming and editing web edits for multiple friends in the past half year. Practicing different filming and editing techniques. Personally, I've been working on my own personal video. When I first started filming for it, I was hoping to release it in two months or so. As I was racking up more and more clips, I realized that most of them were junk, and hardly worth putting in a throwaway edit. Those two months have turned into six months now, and I'm still continually replacing clips with better, newly acquired ones. I have almost five minutes of throwaway footage now. I'm just waiting to find that one spot to film a banger clip. I hope all the waited time is worth it in the end.

I think as far as web edits and full length DVDs go, there are a couple of things that make them enjoyable and more entertaining for me. First, a variety of locations. If you have filmed a park video, don't film everything on the same quarter pipe, maybe go as far to film your tricks at separate skate parks. Same goes with street spots. If you want to put multiple ledge/grind tricks into your video, film them at separate ledges. The change in scenery throughout the video makes it more entertaining.

The last is filming. If an entire is filmed with a fisheye, it isn't as fun to watch, especially if the lens is dirty. If a video switches up between fisheye and long lens, it keeps me intrigued and makes me want to keep watching. It is also more enjoyable to watch a video, if the long lens aren't just fixed tripod shots, and more zooming and panning.

This gets me hyped to film for my SZ part...and it gets me thinking as to how I can get the scooter community to react to what type of riding I'm going for in my part. These articles have been exceptional so far, great job Alex.

First, Good Job Alex!

For me filming is really fun, and I hate how so many videos are poorly filmed/edited. I try to teach my riding homies how to film so that my videos will look decent too. And for me its the same as someone said in here, after some time i dont like some clips anymore and replace them with better clips. So its really important for an good edit not to rush on it. Different Locations/Spots is also good and switch between Long Lens and Fisheye. Long Lens filming can be so good if done right. I would love to see more good filmed/edited full lenght videos!
