Fork Designs

Hey, I've been making one piece bars for a while now and have been selling them on ebay and to random people at the skate park. [link=http://cgi.ebay.com.au/One-piece-scooter-bar_W0QQitemZ130290877861QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Sport_Scooters_Accessories?hash=item130290877861&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A1|39%3A1|240%3A1318][/link] They are really good and none have ever broken. I'm looking into making threadless forks. I'm a complete noob when it comes to forks and that because everyone has stock forks where I live. I'm just wondering how does the bmx compression system work and what compression should i use. Also wondering what sort of material i should use.

probably use chromoly.
dont copy other forks, try an original design.
for compression, read about the inverted compression system.

Alright, 2 ideas for you.

Now, i've always thought a set of forks that look like mini bmx forks (tubular[round], heat treated, big dropouts, curved not just welded) would look immense.

The second is that now Knucks are around it would be interesting to see some internally threaded for a proper BMX Topcap (threaded rather than a starnut) because that way you'd get the most out of the knucks (buy knucks btw)...

Oh and if not then just starnut compression and As i said Cromoly/Heat treated junk usually works best.

RAD forks are internally threaded.

Hehe
But yeah he's right.

Been done by who? i spent a few years out of the loop. could you elaborate? and to what extent were they done? cus i'd love a DECENT set that actually looked like bmx forks.

And i didn't know about rad forks, but still, out of the loop sorry for being noobish. It'd be nice to see it all catch up to bmx design though.

why do you want scooters to be like bikes soo much with the new bars now forks soon scooters will just be lke little bieks the reason people ride scooters is to be part of soemthign new now it seems like its only people who fail at bmx

The reason some things look like bike parts is because 95% of the technolgy is basically the same...

I want them to look like bikes because bikes look so much more dialled than scooters.
And that sort of impressive look is immense. As cory said things are going the way of bikes right now anyway. I see more people riding with bmx grips, barends, clamps, soon headcaps (after knucks). And because BMX stuff has reached its peak with strenght and is now all about finding the lightest stuff around, e.g. there a step ahead of us.

Oh and i ride both,
1) Scooters != new, i rode one twice as old as any bike i'd ever seen(this means bmx in this case) at a war museum that was around during WWII (The furthest the bmx design goes back is late 60s).
2) The reason i went back to riding scooter was that i like the low ride(it takes your center of gravity about a foot lower) making spins a hell of a lot more dialled. Oh and for me scooter=tech whilst my bike is about going big. so when i go back to scooter for a day then get back on my bike i always tend to learn something.
3) I still rip it up on my bmx.

Would you rather things start to look more stock? because no-body should like that look .5m flat metal is not where it's at. What should forks look like? haha. There is honestly not much alternative so for the life of me if they don't look like bmx forks i think they are going in the wrong direction.

First Bold. freestlye scooters not pieces of wood with wheels.
Second bold. NO I dont want to see everyone riding stock scooters but why do we have to have everything exactly the same as bmx just a scaled down version i mean inwards dont resemble bmx forks yet they are strong and suit scooters very well. SR look similar to bmx forks but arent identical again they are strong and would look better than a small version of an ordinary bmx fork.

Barends grips headsets i have no problem with but if we want this sport to get any respect at all from other cultures such as bmx and skating we need to differ fomr them somehow why would a bmx rider give any respect to someone riding an object with the same looking parts as him just scaled down??
Cmon get creative

I forget, I saw it a whileee ago, somebody just like cut off the legs of a bmx fork.

It's all good, and I can totally agree with you. I used to ride BMX too, my bike was nice, like 23lbs with pegs. And it was pretty close to indestructible.

And in your later post, you're exactly right, first BMXers looked for strength, then when they got as strong as they needed, they started trying to get light stuff. Proto forks and Wee bars are now made of chromoly. I'm sure sometime in the near future, scooter parts will all be chromoly, 6/7k alu, or ti. Someday, hopefully, parts will be mass-produced in factories, with tapered/butted tubing, heat treated metal... Right now, the closest to butted tubing is Inward bars lol.

I can't wait for the future :)

i totally agree with ryan. theres a reason that scooter part manafacturers don't make their parts look like BMX parts. scootering is its own sport so don't mix bmxing into it. at the rate its going, pretty soon our whells are going to have fuckking spokes!! im not dissing on bmxers at all, im just saying keep them both their own sports.

scootering came from inline blades, skate boards & BMX mixed into whats now called a kick scooter, i dont beleave mixing it up is wrong if you beleave this then

Proto's SCS so against your comment as its designed yeah for scooter use, using BMX headset princiables, id even say andrews forks will come treaded on the inside of tube to take away the star nut as this is what every one to start didnt like about going treadless, we all use bmx handle grips, headsets skate board brand grip tape, skate board branded bearings so how are we not mixing it up

our sport is its own & always will be

I've been using this compression system forever; never broken and its really good; only comes loose when you extract it.
Look into it.
