Ok, for hopping into them on a pad, you basically hop into a manny with ALL of your weight on the back wheel and turn your bars, then just place the front wheel down with your bars at a 90° angle until you feel a little bit of resistance.

Tips:
SPEED
Weight on back wheel
Tug with your back hand, don't use your front hand too much
BEND YOUR KNEES

Kthxbie

Think of it like a manny and then try to get the wheel to touch the ground whilte still putting all the weight on the back wheel.

put enough weight on the front wheel to be able to steer, it's tough to figure out at first but learn on something slick and be prepared to ruin a few wheels in the process. Now that I'm better at them I don't flat spot wheels that often doing them but first learning I killed like 3 wheels

Do what Anton said, do a manual with your front wheel barely touching. And do it on something slick as everyone else said.
uhhh. first you need to learn to spell "tire" but it's not a tire, it's a "wheel."
Tire is spelled "tyre" in the UK.
