How does having no sound and lag relate to each other?

I play PS3 on a shitty old Panasonic 32" CRT TV, well for COD at least. online shooters+HD is a horrible combination for me. I have a 46" Samsung in the living room, Onkoyo receiver and 5.1 Boston Acoustics surround sound but no picture at the moment. I usually play Grand Turismo and sports games on the big TV
