Hate Within The Community

Okay, I know I'm going to get one asshole who argues with every point I'm about to make but I really don't care. I think this community has too much hate, I don't understand why street riders have to hate park riders and vice versa. Maybe instead of worrying about what they ride we should worry about who is riding it. Just because a person likes to ride handrails, or someone likes riding park doesn't automatically mean that they're bad. We get enough hate from all other action sports already, we really don't need to hate on each other simply because of what we have more fun doing. I am an avid street rider, but that doesn't mean I hate everyone who rides park. Some of the chillest dudes I've ridden with mainly ride park. I think if we all grow up and start worrying more about the person behind the riding more than what they're riding our sport will grow faster, and stick around. Now I'm not saying you have to go watch every MaddGear edit out but just don't go around bashing it just because its in a skatepark. Im also not saying that if someone is a huge dick you don't have to right to say so, I'm just saying we shouldn't hate people because of what they like to ride. Sorry this is so long I just feel like it needed to be said.

100% agree, we should be encouraging each style, not adding to the ever growing pile of hate we are already receiving!

Okay splitting things into a meaningless dichotomy isn't going to do anything either. It's not about street versus park, it's about good versus bad riding, or creative and original versus derivative riding that treats scootering as some sort of gymnastics where scores and tricks matter rather than the work and art of riding itself. I'm fine with park riding, some of my favorite riders ride park a lot or exclusively. Stan Smirnoff, Dan Holm, Geordie Mac, and Jarrod Bruns are some of my favorite riders to watch. What I don't like is when people ride uncreatively and simply air quarters or do basic flybox lines for an entire video. Unfortunately, these type of riders make up the majority of people who mainly ride park and the vast majority of people who label themselves as "park riders." Also, on average, a street video is usually more creative, fresh, and entertaining than ones average park video and from what I've seen those pros who label themselves as "street riders" tend to produce better videos on average than those who label themselves as "park riders." There's also lots of bad street riders who make terrible videos. However, generally people get distracted by an imagined street vs. park conflict that is merely a diversion from the real dichotomy of derivative versus creative riding. Also, because street is not a terrain that is directly designed for riding, street by default often forces a rider to think more creatively than your average flybox and quarter setup does.
So no, we shouldn't criticize people for what they like to ride, we should criticize them for how they ride it, if they ride it poorly.

We shouldn't criticize anyone for their riding. We should help people grow to see riding as a way to express and enjoy themselves.

Constructive criticism accomplishes that. Criticizing people for mindlessly following trends helps them to see what is really important.

Why does everyone get so cut up about hate in our sport? Let people hate on who they want, I hate generic kickless rewinds and trick spamming whip bar combos that a lot of park riders do, how does it affect you if I talk shit on their riding?

The reason other sports don't like scooters is becuase of the little annoying 5 year old kids and the equally annoying 12 year old rats that hog the park and snake the fuck out of everyone without even realizing. Becuase these kids and rats make up about 90% of scooter riders it has become the stereotype and when people say "scooters are gay" or annoying they're really talking about these kids who are indeed annoying and gay.
Also street riders tend to get less hate becuase there aren't even a fraction as many ratty street kids as there are rats in parks.

wrong topic homie. that would be hate outside of the scooter community.

just shred and do what comes naturally and feels right is the only advice i have to anyones riding. if you distinguish yourself as a park or street rider you will be forcing discriminatory thoughts upon yourself. its like racism. the only way to stop it is to stop talking about it, stop calling people park or street riders. also, if you try to be one or the other you will be missing out on areas you could improve on because street and park riding DO go hand in hand and people who ride both and think of themselves as a well-rounded rider are the ones who progress the most.

BEADY!
The bridge between park rats and street elitists is too big to have them agree and be friendly to each other
