"Heavy" grinds

so I've started doing more grinds again recently (my local has no rails and only one barrier kind of ledge thing), I used to grind lots when I lived in Sweden as the park there had lots of ledges and a rail. now this question is specififcly for rail grinds, I don't know if people know what I mean but when just doing a bs boards on high rails I can kind of hop onto it and it feels light, I'm not tense and balaincing is much easier, I kind of ride into the boardslide. when trying to trick or fs lip the higher rail for example I come down on the rail with much more force and then it is much harder to control. I feels like I am not kind of 'floating' on the grind in the same way, I hope you know what I mean. getting in a good balance point on this rail is important as it is a long rail. also the rail can wobble a fair bit so landing gracefully on the rail would help a lot I think.

If anyone knows what I mean and can help in anyway it would be much appreciated, btw I am riding a rupv2 deck at the moment which is of course no the best for grinds and its super short.

Well try to find a smaller rail and get comfortable with the trick you want to try on the higher rail, has helped me always. For example I have a 6 inch high flat rail at home and I learned so many different grinds which I later took to the streets.

Jump as low as you can. When doing lips you have to jump over the rail so you are going downwards before you hit the rail instead of just jumping onto the rail which means there is no down force except for gravity which would give you that 'floating' feel. Also when going on a low rail you tend to over jump and land with more force because you aren't used to a lower rail. After a couple minutes you should get the hang of jumping at a certain height and you will 'float'.

I can't tell if that made sense... or if it's the steroids I'm on...

i think you're right, the thing is the rail is 2ft high or something, maybe a little less.

but doing a higher rail you need to jump higher, you make no sense
