i would say just pull up but that might not cut it , you just have to "feel" it .it all depends on the transition the coping the hight how mellow or steep.
but as a rule of thumb

Get some speed that you feel comfortable with, you want to be able to hit the coping of the qauterpipe/halfpipe..

you approach the quarter, bend your knees for extra speed (pump your legs). When you hit the coping retract your knees in a jumping motion

The scariest bit of airing to any new comer to scooter riding, but don't fear with this guide you will pull of this maneuver with ease.
Assuming that you're now in the air, you want to pull the bars up and hold onto them. You now want turn your body in a spinning motion to either your right or left side, you should first find out which you feel comfortable spinning.

Coming back in: All you have to do is keep your knees bent and extend them when you hit the quarter pipe in a pumping motion.

hope that helps

when you pop off the coping, dont jump straight off. Sort of jump up. Otherwise you end up jumping away from the transition, and when you land, youre landing on flat at the bottom. not pleasant. Sounds kind of stupid, but its true.

airing is probably my favorite thing to do but i remember learning them was really frustrating. the 180 part is really a really natural feeling, even if you dont do airs yet. its a lot like 180ing on a ramp below the coping but takes more speed and commitment. if you are afraid of doing them, you need to get over it. just huck it over the coping and let your body spin naturally. make sure to keep your balance the entire way through the air because losing control sucks when you're ten feet above flat. progression is also really fun with airs because tranny comes in all shapes and sizes, and you can always go a bit higher. and then there are the actual tricks themselves which are entirely different in the air than flat.

Pop off the coping. Do not hop. Don't listen to these kid. All you have to do is pop off the coping then tuck a little and your good to go

Something I did a lot when I was learning to air out was that I wouldn't ride all the way up the quarter. At first it always seems like you should jump soon cause you're going faster, but you have to ride the quarter as far as you possibly can without rolling back until you jump, otherwise you'll just fly out.

learn quarter to bank airs, then when you start airing quarters, take it slow. start with little 180s near the bottom, work your way up and it really just comes naturally.
