HIC with cut fork?

would HIC work if I cut the shim to the same length as the steerer tube? I'm pretty sure it would, but I just wanted to make sure

you want it a little bit longer. like.. a quarter of an inch or so longer than the length of the steertube that sticks above the headtube.

If you cut the shim to the same size of the fork, the top cap will rest on the fork.
If that happens, whats compressing the headset?

^ Exactly. You need your shim to be at least a few millimeters taller than the part of your forktube that sticks out above the headset

yeah it should be a bit bigger still 1/4 inch or half inch will do
